[Bug 402823] New: Accessibility Bridge Seems Unstable.
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=402823 Summary: Accessibility Bridge Seems Unstable. Product: openSUSE 11.0 Version: Final Platform: x86-64 OS/Version: openSUSE 11.0 Status: NEW Severity: Normal Priority: P5 - None Component: GNOME AssignedTo: bnc-team-gnome@forge.provo.novell.com ReportedBy: jpryor@novell.com QAContact: qa@suse.de Found By: --- The accessibility bridge seems unstable. To reproduce: 1. Enable Accessibility: Computer -> Control Center -> Assistive Technologies -> Enable assistive technologies check box. 2. Logout & Login if necessary. 3. Use Gnome for 1-4 days (not sure how long). 4. Open gnome-terminal, and start any GTK+-using program (gedit, gvim, etc.), and the following text will be printed to the screen: atk-bridge-WARNING **: failure: no device event controller found. My suspicion (with no backup evidence) is that the device event controller crashes after a period of time, and all subsequent app start (and use, in the case of gvim), spews to the console. This makes any frequent use of the terminal + GTK+ apps painful. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

Could you please attach to it in gdb, use your system until it crashes, and then provide a stack trace? You can get a stack trace with the instructions here: http://en.opensuse.org/Bugs:GNOME#Getting_stack_traces_by_hand -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

I couldn't attach to at-spi-registryd within X, as attempting to attach caused my session to hang, so I had to attach from the console (Ctrl+Alt+F1). Later I saw my session hang again, and lo-and-behold at-spi-registryd was sitting at a SIGPIPE. Problem was that after continuing, I couldn't go back to my X session. I couldn't do anything, actually -- Ctrl+Alt+F_N_ and/or Alt+F_N_ (for N <= 1 <= 6) did nothing. I had to login via ssh from another box and /sbin/reset to get anything working again. So perhaps this is the crash you're looking for, perhaps not, but if it is, I'm not sure how much that stack trace will help, as it's some other (unknown) process that's dying, causing the SIGPIPE, and I don't know how to determine which process was at the other end of that pipe. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=402823 User jpryor@novell.com added comment https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=402823#c3 --- Comment #3 from Jonathan Pryor <jpryor@novell.com> 2008-07-13 12:56:40 MDT --- Created an attachment (id=227474) --> (https://bugzilla.novell.com/attachment.cgi?id=227474) SIGABRT GDB output Hopefully more useful gdb output, with a SIGABRT instead of SIGPIPE. I'm still disappointed with the "??" from libORBit-2.so.0 in the stack trace (frame #4), while other libORBit frames do have functions listed (e.g. frame #8), particularly since I don't see a orbit2-debuginfo package that I can install, just orbit2, orbit2-32bit, orbit2-devel, and orbit2-doc. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
