https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=444800 User matz@novell.com added comment https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=444800#c7 --- Comment #7 from Michael Matz <matz@novell.com> 2008-11-28 09:42:53 MST --- Petr: I looked at this a bit, and thought I'd share my findings here. The symbol reference to ldap_int_tls_destroy comes from the finalizer of libldap-2.4.so, i.e. from itself. That it isn't found (though obviously libldap-2.4.so is still loaded, after all we are right in its finalizer) is some strange thing in the dynamic linker. I.e. the stream of events goes like this: kcmshell4 opens libkdeinit4_kcmshell4.so, that contains the real main routine. also loads libstreamanalyzer.so. In the course of running it dlopens all modules in /usr/lib/strigi/ , amongst them strigiea_ics.so, which is linked against libldap-2.4.so.2 . The dlopen is done RTLD_LOCAL | RTLD_LAZY. When the application exits, finalizers are run as usual. _fini of libstreamanalyzer.so dlcloses() all the loaded strigi modules. That triggers the finalizers of those, but they don't do interesting thing. At that point libldap-2.4.so is still loaded. When the process continues exiting and running the finalizers it eventually also runs those of libldap-2.4.so. That needs ldap_int_tls_destroy, but somehow the searchmap of libldap is _not_ in the searched scopes anymore: Breakpoint 1, _dl_lookup_symbol_x ( undef_name=0xb3bea59e "ldap_int_tls_destroy", undef_map=0x822e688, ref=0xbfffec80, symbol_scope=0x818f118, version=0x0, type_class=1, flags=1, skip_map=0x0) at dl-lookup.c:80 This is the actual look for the PLT slot in libldap-2.4.so. It will search the symbol in symbol_scope (a subset of all loaded DSOs), which is: (gdb) p undef_map->l_name $85 = 0x80f63c8 "/usr/lib/libldap-2.4.so.2" (gdb) p undef_map->l_scope[1] (struct r_scope_elem *) 0x0 (gdb) p *undef_map->l_scope[0] {r_list = 0xb60ad498, r_nlist = 55} You can see which libraries are connected to that scope by iterating over the r_nlist entries of r_list, printing the l_name member. Interestingly this list does _not_ contain libldap-2.4.so.2 and hence the lookup fails. I can only speculate that somehow the unloading of strigiea_ics.so (and the other two ldap requiring modules) triggers also half-unloading of libldap-2.4.so (half in the sense of removing it from the lookup scopes already, but without yet having run the finalizers of it). I wasn't able to create a small testcase (simply dlopening a module that in turn dlopens a module linked against libldap, and dlclosing it in a finalizer simply worked, i.e. didn't get the same failure. at the point of lookup (i.e. in the finalizer of libldap) libldap itself still existed in the scopes). -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
