https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=348676 User janneke-list@xs4all.nl added comment https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=348676#c309714 Summary: zypper should list package descriptions/summaries Product: openSUSE 10.3 Version: Final Platform: x86-64 OS/Version: openSUSE 10.3 Status: NEW Severity: Normal Priority: P5 - None Component: libzypp AssignedTo: dmacvicar@novell.com ReportedBy: janneke-list@xs4all.nl QAContact: dmacvicar@novell.com CC: mmeeks@novell.com Found By: Development When trying to find a package (eg, to create a zypper/yast repository), the default zypper output is not helpful. It shows a package multiple times, and it shows the repository url, and if it's installed or not. Also, it abbreviates the package name,even on a really wide terminal. $ zypper search rpm * Geïnstalleerde pakketten worden gelezen [100%] S | Installatiebron | Type | Naam | Versie | Arch --+-------------------------------------------------------------------+--------+--------------+------------+------- | http://download.opensuse.org/repositories/openSUSE:10.3/standard/ | pakket | apt4rpm | 0.69.3-112 | noarch i | openSUSE-10.3-DVD 10.3 | pakket | deltarpm | 3.4-36 | x86_64 | http://download.opensuse.org/repositories/openSUSE:10.3/standard/ | pakket | deltarpm | 3.4-36 | i586 i | http://download.opensuse.org/repositories/openSUSE:10.3/standard/ | pakket | deltarpm | 3.4-36 | x86_64 | openSUSE-10.3-DVD 10.3 | pakket | krpmbuilder | 1.2-126 | x86_64 | http://download.opensuse.org/repositories/openSUSE:10.3/standard/ | pakket | krpmbuilder | 1.2-126 | i586 | http://download.opensuse.org/repositories/openSUSE:10.3/standard/ | pakket | krpmbuilder | 1.2-126 | x86_64 | openSUSE-10.3-DVD 10.3 | pakket | patchrpm | 1.1-71 | x86_64 | http://download.opensuse.org/repositories/openSUSE:10.3/standard/ | pakket | patchrpm | 1.1-71 | i586 | http://download.opensuse.org/repositories/openSUSE:10.3/standard/ | pakket | patchrpm | 1.1-71 | x86_64 i | openSUSE-10.3-DVD 10.3 | pakket | rpm | 4.4.2-140 | x86_64 | http://download.opensuse.org/repositories/openSUSE:10.3/standard/ | pakket | rpm | 4.4.2-140 | i586 i | http://download.opensuse.org/repositories/openSUSE:10.3/standard/ | pakket | rpm | 4.4.2-140 | x86_64 i | openSUSE-10.3-DVD 10.3 | pakket | rpm-devel | 4.4.2-140 | x86_64 | http://download.opensuse.org/repositories/openSUSE:10.3/standard/ | pakket | rpm-devel | 4.4.2-140 | i586 i | http://download.opensuse.org/repositories/openSUSE:10.3/standard/ | pakket | rpm-devel | 4.4.2-140 | x86_64 i | openSUSE-10.3-DVD 10.3 | pakket | rpm-python | 4.4.2-164 | x86_64 | http://download.opensuse.org/repositories/openSUSE:10.3/standard/ | pakket | rpm-python | 4.4.2-164 | i586 i | http://download.opensuse.org/repositories/openSUSE:10.3/standard/ | pakket | rpm-python | 4.4.2-164 | x86_64 | http://download.opensuse.org/repositories/openSUSE:10.3/standard/ | pakket | rpmlint-mini | 1.0-53 | i586 | http://download.opensuse.org/repositories/openSUSE:10.3/standard/ | pakket | rpmlint-mini | 1.0-53 | x86_64 The output of apt-cache search is much more helpful to me (this bug relates to #309714: search -d not working): $ sudo chroot /other apt-cache search rpm repository apt-rpm-repository - tools to create an APT RPM repository createrepo - generates the metadata necessary for a RPM package repository python-sqlitecachec - A fast metadata parser for YUM yum - Advanced front-end for rpm -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

Also, it abbreviates the package name, even on a really wide terminal. I'm not aware of this. If it really happens, please open a separate bug report for it and provide an example.
