[Bug 939088] New: during boot in most cases wicked is started incompletely
http://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=939088 Bug ID: 939088 Summary: during boot in most cases wicked is started incompletely Classification: openSUSE Product: openSUSE Factory Version: 201505* Hardware: Other OS: Other Status: NEW Severity: Normal Priority: P5 - None Component: Kernel Assignee: kernel-maintainers@forge.provo.novell.com Reporter: w.pelser@web.de QA Contact: qa-bugs@suse.de Found By: --- Blocker: --- During boot wicked service is started in the very beginning. There the job (or parts) is deleted (for details see boot.msg.txt as attatchment). I have to start these services later on manually with YAST-services. Some months ago the wicked services were always successfully started nearly at the end of the boot. Start of wicked-services should not be deleted, but wait or skipped to be done later or even done later. wicked-servive: 0.6.18-15.1 systemd: 221-8.1 dracut: 043-1.5 kernel: 4.1.2_1_desktop-2 from kernel.org (self compiled) -- You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug.

Today I found and installed wicked 0.6.19-18.1 from repo openSUSE-update and not from repo tumbleweed. Problem seems to be solved (after a single boot test). So this seems to be a problem with wicked 0.6.18 and is fixed in 0.6.19.
Tumbleweed still has 0.6.18, the next snapshot (which apparently is delayed because of other problems) should have 0.6.19 though. So closing as fixed. Please feel free to reopen this bugreport if wicked 0.6.19 in Tumbleweed (when it is released) still shows the same problem. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug.

Many thanks for your quick and kind reply! Thanks for your testing! It was you who discovered that it is apparently working with wicked 0.16.19. ;-)
Let's hope it is really fixed with the next Tumbleweed snapshot, i.e. when wicked 0.6.19 is in Tumbleweed... If not, as I wrote, please reopen. Btw, I hope you are not using the 13.2 update repo on a regular basis (I suppose that's the "openSUSE-update" repo where you installed wicked from now). That's just bound to give you problems when you are using Tumbleweed. Tumbleweed is not an add-on repo for the latest openSUSE release any more, but a distribution on its own. I normally use only the tumbleweed repos. But sometimes, when something is missing or does not work, I try versions from other repos, often I can solve my my problems using this way. But I’m allways aware, that something can go wrong with it. "No risk, no fun" or "have a lot of fun"? The last YAST-version from tumbleweed didn't work for me, but with trying a devel-version (f.i.: libyui-qt6 2.46.18-3.1) I made it work. So I carefully use this page, not to blame others for my own faults. This is my kind of detective-story. But thanks for your advice! I will keep that in mind. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug.

Anyway, this is a problem, and I will submit the update if I may... ;)

(In reply to Walther Pelser from comment #6) But thanks for your advice! I will keep that in mind. Ok, I didn't really want to imply that's your problem. ;-) You seem to know what you are doing.
I just wanted to mention it.
Wouldn't be the first time someone got caught up in a messed up repo list. Things like this are discussed in the forums every other day.
Anyway, this is a problem, and I will submit the update if I may... ;)
"But thanks for your advice! I will keep that in mind." This seems not to be translated from German into English in the right way. I liked your concern. Maybe "suggestion" would have been better than "advice", and I will really keep that in mind. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug.

Whatever. That's not a problem. ;-) Let's just leave it at that for now. And again, please reopen this bugreport if it is not fixed. Thanks. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug.
