[Bug 983939] New: New users don't belong to audio, video groups
http://bugzilla.suse.com/show_bug.cgi?id=983939 Bug ID: 983939 Summary: New users don't belong to audio, video groups Classification: openSUSE Product: openSUSE Tumbleweed Version: Current Hardware: x86-64 OS: Other Status: NEW Severity: Major Priority: P5 - None Component: YaST2 Assignee: yast2-maintainers@suse.de Reporter: silviu_marin-caea@otpbank.ro QA Contact: jsrain@suse.com Found By: --- Blocker: --- After applying the latest TW updates, YaST creates new users that belong only to group "users" and nothing else. This results in new users not having access to the sound card device. This happens not only to new users, but existing users too. That's how I first noticed the problem, there was no sound anymore. Also the sound card wasn't defined anymore. In short, sound was working before updating, and not working after. I had to re-configure the sound card and re-add the user to audio, video groups. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug.

The standard unix permissions are for root:audio, but the ACLs specify extra permissions for me. IIRC these permissions are granted during the login process (ConsoleKit/PAM/or something else? I am not expert in that area...) - Check the file permissions (see the commands above) - Check whether your root FS supports ACLs and the support is not disabled (check /etc/fstab) If you really need to have the new uses in the "audio" group then start the YaST User management module and switch to "Defaults for New Users" tab, add "audio" to the "Secondary Groups" field. Resolving as INVALID, the audio group membership should not be needed, if it stopped working that something else outside YaST got broken, the YaST default groups should not be involved at all. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug.

A fresh installation should work too, though.
Yes, I did a fresh installation and ACLs appeared in /dev/snd I know, Tumbleweed is sometimes Stumbleweed, it needs a kick to get it back in working order. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug.
