However there is no PNG file created that shows the cart. Only the bootchart.tgz file is created. I note I replaced the JDK java with the SUN java. Could that be the reason for no PNG file ? Is the PNG not supposed to be created automatically ? What command should be sent to create the PNG from the bootchart.tgz ? I took an ultra-conservative approach on my 32-bit openSUSE-11.4 LXDE desktop (which is on a rather old athon-1100 CPU with 1GB RAM) and deleted the old /var/log/boot.tgz file. Then I opened an xterm (running it from lxterm) and also opened an xterm from the LXDE menu. Then I restarted the PC and in the grub boot menu entered the " init=/sbin/bootchartd " . After the PC booted I again opened an xterm from lxterminal and also from the LXDE menu. And I waited. Eventually both the bootchart.tgz and bootchart.png did show up. But it took a LONG time no this old PC. specifically some times (HH:MM) 20:00 boot.msg time 20:02 bootchart.tgz time 20:03 bootchart.png time. I confess I had misjudged the relative slowness of this PC. So thankyou for the support.
