[Bug 467387] New: Network changes cause battery level to read 0%
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=467387 Summary: Network changes cause battery level to read 0% Classification: openSUSE Product: openSUSE 11.1 Version: RC 2 Platform: x86 OS/Version: openSUSE 11.1 Status: NEW Severity: Critical Priority: P5 - None Component: Network AssignedTo: bnc-team-screening@forge.provo.novell.com ReportedBy: Uniacke1@yahoo.ca QAContact: qa@suse.de Found By: --- User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux i686; en-GB; rv:1.9.0.5) Gecko/2008121300 SUSE/3.0.5-1.1 Firefox/3.0.5 OpenSuSE 11.1 update from 11.0 on MSI M662 Laptop. Any changes made to network settings through Yast or Ifconfig cause the battery level to read 0% (poth kpower and battery widget) for several moments. When on laptop battery power, this is enough to send the machine to standby (even though battery is fully charged). Attempt to resume from standby hangs machine. Reproducible: Couldn't Reproduce Steps to Reproduce: 1.Start KDE4. 2.Open Yast and change Network device settings, save. (Also when changes made via ifconfig with NetworkManager running.) 3. Observe changes in battery monitor level to 0% Expected Results: Battery level should remain at correct percentage. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

Wielens <Uniacke1@yahoo.ca> 2009-01-19 09:16:04 MST --- Despite that I couldn't reproduce for this bug report, it _has_ happened numerous times, so it is not a one-off issue. First time I noticed it was when using battery power. I had KDE4 running, connected my laptop to another computer and issued 'ifconfig eth0 192.168.0.5' to assign a static ip. Subsequently, I started vsftpd, and then received the battery notice, after which the above hang occured. Last weekend I was attempting to resolve a dial-up DNS issue where the DNS servers where not getting written to /etc/resolv.conf (someone else seems to have filed that bug already) and there was a lot of enabling/disabling NetworkManager and settings changes involved. Several times, I noticed that the battery monitor would fall from <90% to zero and back up again within a few minutes. (I was on AC power, so no standby/hang.) -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

Wielens <Uniacke1@yahoo.ca> 2009-02-07 05:18:06 MST --- Update- This does not appear to relate to the network anymore- After a fair amount of use yesterday, this issue appears to happen at random (i.e. it happens even if I'm not using the system. Yesterday my system came out of a cold boot, and it said there was no battery installed at all. (cat /proc/acpi/battery/BAT1/state) said 'Present: no'. Seems this issue is in the ACPI of the kernel. Removing and re-inserting the battery resolved the issue, but the power level still changed from 0% to 100% and back to the correct value of 95% at random. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
