BTW: it is normal that you can't register openSUSE 11.0 with NCC, it is not supported and shouldn't be necessary.
I'm sorry, but this is wrong. You can register your openSUSE system with NCC. The only affect this action has is that the default update repository is returned. And by clicking the "Registration Code" checkbox you can even force the system to ask for your registration code to register for support that way. (In reply to comment #1 from Dirk Mueller)
it is however not enabled, that appears to have happened due to a refresh error. try "zypper mr -r updates" to fix that.
Well, actually it is enabled. Just the auto-refresh was disabled. (In reply to comment #3 from roeland jansen)
the zypper mr -r updates fixed it.
This fixed the issue of not getting updates, but not the initial error report of this bug.
I didn't install the base system and normally exec yast2 online update config to add the update sources.
This is the basic problem. Because base packages are/were missing, the product could not be detected. Thats what the suse_register perl script said as well.
I'll have to add the additional repositories by hand as that doesn't work with yast in the vps either. Thanks.
If the "product" is installed on the system it will work automatically. Could you please run this command and paste the output here? /usr/lib/zypp/zypp-query-pool --registrable products Additionally please attach the file /root/.suse_register.log Without any further logs this report is worthless. The product seems not to be installed correctly (meaning the product is missing logically - it has no identity). -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

the zypp-query-pool doesn't output any data.
The the product dependencies are not satisfied. The base system you got then was stripped down too much, sorry. On openSUSE 11.0 we check all dependencies to find out if a product is installed (correctly) - this changed with openSUSE 11.1. On openSUSE 11.0 you can fix this with the following commands: - Search for products that your repositories provide: # zypper se -t product - Look at its output and pick one of them (lets say you picked "openSUSE-FTP"): # zypper in -t product openSUSE-FTP This should install all dependencies needed for the product to be installed completely. Otherwise you have to add your update repositoriy manually. Anyhow, you should inform the creator of the base system. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
