[Bug 421732] New: floppy unusable in openSUSE 11. 0 64bit - occasional system freeze
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=421732 Summary: floppy unusable in openSUSE 11.0 64bit - occasional system freeze Product: openSUSE 11.0 Version: Final Platform: x86-64 OS/Version: openSUSE 11.0 Status: NEW Severity: Normal Priority: P5 - None Component: Kernel AssignedTo: bnc-team-screening@forge.provo.novell.com ReportedBy: alexander.koenig@koenig-a.de QAContact: qa@suse.de Found By: --- Created an attachment (id=236430) --> (https://bugzilla.novell.com/attachment.cgi?id=236430) Output of /usr/sbin/hwinfo openSUSE 11.0 (64bit) was installed from DVD and all latest patches from the update repository have been installed. The floppy disk drive appears to be unusable in openSUSE 11.0, 64 bit Version. Symptoms: The first command to the floppy drive after re-boot seems to work, all subsequent access to the floppy drive - with the same disk or with any other - fail (floppy LED is on, floppy drive moves, but no positive result). I tried it under 11.1 Beta5 (life CD) and under Knoppix_V5.3.1 (life DVD): the behavior is the same. Is there a known hardware incompatibility with the floppy controller on mainboard GA-MA770-DS3?
Did you run `modprobe floppy`? Is the behaviour the system lockup or the non-working floppy? Can you attach the floppy image? Can you try a few debugging steps if the system is locking up? 1) Does the capslock key work when it locks up? Can you get the capslock LED to turn on and off? 2) Install a kernel-debug kernel. Please use this Kernel for the rest of the tests. 3) Add `kernel.sysrq = 1` to /etc/sysctl.conf or `echo 1 > /proc/sys/kernel/sysrq` 4) Run `dmesg -n 8` on boot 5) Run your tests from a virtual console instead of X. Use Alt+Ctrl+Shift+F1 to switch to the virtual console. 6) (Optional but very helpful) Setup a debug console by either using a a serial console or net consle with a null modem cable hooked up to another machine. If you are using a serial console append console=ttyS0,115200 to the boot command line and run `screen -T vt100 /dev/ttyS0 115200` on the other machine If you can't use a serial console please use this documentation http://git.kernel.org/?p=linux/kernel/git/torvalds/linux-2.6.git;a=blob_plai... Please reply with results from these tests. If the system seems to lock up with nothing useful try using the Alt-Sysreq + w or Alt-Sysreq + d to get some debug output. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
