[Bug 728572] New: HL-1430 usb connected printer does not print after properly installed
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=728572 https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=728572#c0 Summary: HL-1430 usb connected printer does not print after properly installed Classification: openSUSE Product: openSUSE 11.4 Version: Final Platform: x86-64 OS/Version: openSUSE 11.4 Status: NEW Severity: Normal Priority: P5 - None Component: Printing AssignedTo: jsmeix@suse.com ReportedBy: f.alabas@ttmail.com QAContact: jsmeix@suse.com Found By: --- Blocker: --- Created an attachment (id=460623) --> (http://bugzilla.novell.com/attachment.cgi?id=460623) Cups Error Log User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Linux x86_64; rv:7.0.1) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/7.0.1 HL-1430 printer when connected via usb does print only once and can not print any further. The installation is done properly and I am even able to print test-page, but then printer does not response to any jobs sent from any of the applications. First I thought the printer is broken, however official service reports no problem after investigation. And it works properly on other proprietary operating systems. When I connect my HL-1430 via parallel cable, then it starts working again. Ok, I changed the cable and tested the usb port of my 64-bit PC, however it seems to be a driver issue other than any hardware failure. Most probably this is a cups driver issue as far as I goggled. The similar problem has been reported for 32-bit Ubuntu OS since 2006, but I did not find any conclusion about the resolution. I think this is the first time of the similar bug reported on a 64-bit system. I tried ghost-script, postscript and PPD's from Brother's offical web-site, however the issue still exists. I will attach the cups error-log file. One particular issue that I found is: "DEVICE_URI=ipp://192.168.1.1:631/printers/Brother" Such a device URI cannot work at all for a USB printer. Therefore your printer setup is not correct which means there is no bug in the software so that I close the issue as "invalid" according to https://bugzilla.novell.com/page.cgi?id=fields.html#status Regarding device URI see "The Backends" at http://en.opensuse.org/SDB:CUPS_in_a_Nutshell and see "Connection" at http://en.opensuse.org/YaST_Printer Because of the various different reasons which cause error messages in your CUPS error_log file from my point of view your whole printing-related setup looks messed up so that you may have to clean up your whole printing-related setup, then set up your printer anew and then if it still fails, see http://en.opensuse.org/SDB:How_to_Report_a_Printing_Issue how to provide log messages only for one single failed print job. You may have a look at the partially outdated article http://old-en.opensuse.org/SDB:CUPS_-_Reinstalling_the_Printing_System "CUPS - Reinstalling the Printing System" In general the information is still o.k. but some packages have changed, in particular printer driver packages, see "Replacement of the cups-drivers package" at http://en.opensuse.org/Portal:Printing -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
