[Bug 337435] New: No sound in GDM
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=337435 Summary: No sound in GDM Product: openSUSE 10.3 Version: Final Platform: Other OS/Version: Other Status: ASSIGNED Severity: Critical Priority: P5 - None Component: GNOME AssignedTo: hpj@novell.com ReportedBy: hpj@novell.com QAContact: qa@suse.de CC: jpr@novell.com, lists@digitaldarragh.com, doheiligh@novell.com Blocks: 332498 Found By: --- GDM is unable to play sound, which is required for accessibility features. Possibly a permission problem. JPR says: Indeed, stracing /usr/lib/festival/audsp shows EACCES errors on /dev/dsp. I manually added gdm to the audio group but that doesn't seem to make a difference. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

Rodrigo, what might I be doing wrong here wrt. Pulseaudio? I wasn't able to produce sound from a regular, logged-in user either - but when I changed the output device to be direct ALSA, it worked. The GDM user's gconf database seems to be missing the keys related to audio settings, and setting the /desktop/gnome/sound/default_mixer_device key to alsamixer:hw:0 doesn't help. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

Also, for the no sound when logged in, is pulseaudio daemon running? -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
