https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=834278 https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=834278#c0 Summary: Updates om August 9th break texlive Classification: openSUSE Product: openSUSE 12.3 Version: Final Platform: x86-64 OS/Version: openSUSE 12.3 Status: NEW Severity: Major Priority: P5 - None Component: Other AssignedTo: bnc-team-screening@forge.provo.novell.com ReportedBy: chris@infosun.fim.uni-passau.de QAContact: qa-bugs@suse.de Found By: --- Blocker: --- User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Linux x86_64; rv:22.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/22.0 Updating the system with 'zypper update' updated many tex live rpm packages. Now I have version 2012.20120611-3.6.3 . After that tex is broken on my system. 'latex example.tex' delivers warning: kpathsea: /etc/texmf/ls-R: No usable entries in ls-R. warning: kpathsea: See the manual for how to generate ls-R. warning: kpathsea: /var/lib/texmf/ls-R: No usable entries in ls-R. warning: kpathsea: See the manual for how to generate ls-R. warning: kpathsea: /var/cache/texmf/fonts/ls-R: No usable entries in ls-R. warning: kpathsea: See the manual for how to generate ls-R. I can't find the format file `latex.fmt'! instead of a dvi-file. Same with pdflatex. example.tex only contains a minimal document: \documentclasss{article} \begin{document} Hello, World! \end{document} Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. update texlive to the latest version available in final 2. create example.tex 3. latex example.tex Actual Results: warning: kpathsea: /etc/texmf/ls-R: No usable entries in ls-R. warning: kpathsea: See the manual for how to generate ls-R. warning: kpathsea: /var/lib/texmf/ls-R: No usable entries in ls-R. warning: kpathsea: See the manual for how to generate ls-R. warning: kpathsea: /var/cache/texmf/fonts/ls-R: No usable entries in ls-R. warning: kpathsea: See the manual for how to generate ls-R. It only outputs 'public: mktexlsr: Success'. When removing e.g. /var/lib/texmf/ls-R it does not regenerate it. I have a standard installation, eg., 'env | grep TEX' delivers nothing. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=834278 https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=834278#c3 --- Comment #3 from Christian Bachmaier <chris@infosun.fim.uni-passau.de> 2013-08-17 16:05:14 UTC --- Maybe I can guess where the bug lies. I had no group mktex in my /etc/group . After manually executing groupadd -r mktex and texhash the bug is away. Although a texlive package like texlive-filesystem has a preinstall script to generate that group, this is not functional (at least on my system). if test "$1" = 1 -a -z "$(/usr/bin/getent group mktex 2>/dev/null)"; then /usr/sbin/groupadd -r mktex fi That is, rpm -Uhv --force texlive-filesystem-2012.67-4.5.1.noarch.rpm was not able to create the group mktex and complains about missing it. Each ls-R file needs permissions rw-rw-r-- root:mktex instead what I had rw-r--r-- root:root . This is a bug! It looks like mktexlsr exexutes with sudo to that group, ie, by executing the public binary. After manually creating the mktex group the above rpm command corrects that. However, for my private /usr/local/share/texmf/ls-R I had to do that manually. Unfortunately there is no word about that in the update notes. At least in standard texmf-directories like the above, this should be done by the installer script. Is such an update/change necessary for a running production version of opensuse? Texlive was operating like it should before August on my system. Btw, I have an update installation to 12.3 from a 12.2 system, if that plays a role. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
