[Bug 756183] New: suspension on MacBookPro works partially
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=756183 https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=756183#c0 Summary: suspension on MacBookPro works partially Classification: openSUSE Product: openSUSE 12.1 Version: Final Platform: x86-64 OS/Version: Other Status: NEW Severity: Normal Priority: P5 - None Component: Basesystem AssignedTo: bnc-team-screening@forge.provo.novell.com ReportedBy: bluedzins@wp.pl QAContact: qa-bugs@suse.de Found By: --- Blocker: --- suspension on MacBookPro works partially I have MBP and for some time I had MacOS X installed. When I closed the laptop, it went into suspension mode. When I opened it back, it took some time to recover, but even after several dies, I saw a fraction of battery charge dropped. After installing OS 12.1 instead I see such differences: * the recover is immediate, I simply open the lid, screen flashes, and I am good to go (except for wifi, because reconnecting takes the same amount of time as with MacOS X) * however the battery charge state is dramatic -- after several days of keeping laptop in suspended mode (laptop closed) the battery shown 28% of being charged! Is it not even close to normal (MacOS X) suspension mode. My MBP is mid 2009, I use XFCE, close lid is configured as suspend. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

I download the RPM file (using Firefox, but you can use wget, for example) and execute: # rpm -ivh kernel-vanilla-3.5.rc6.22.g2437fcc-1.1.x86_64.rpm as root from the directory the file is saved in. The kernel is installed and I can boot it (it appears as the first available kernel in the GRUB menu, but it is not the default one, so you have to select it manually each time). When you're done with testing, it is sufficient to do: # rpm -e kernel-vanilla-3.5.rc6.22.g2437fcc-1.1 as root to remove the trial kernel. I hope that helps. :-) -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

However this is an estimate because there is worse bug now -- the computer does not recover with this kernel, i.e. the fan spins back, but the screen is completely black. In order to work with it, I have to perform cold reboot. In other words -- to test appropriately the new kernel against this bug, the bug with with resume has to be fixed. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
