[Bug 1205639] New: After 'zypper dup' the Ethernet device got name end0 instead of eth0
http://bugzilla.opensuse.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1205639 Bug ID: 1205639 Summary: After 'zypper dup' the Ethernet device got name end0 instead of eth0 Classification: openSUSE Product: openSUSE Tumbleweed Version: Current Hardware: aarch64 OS: openSUSE Tumbleweed Status: NEW Severity: Major Priority: P5 - None Component: Kernel Assignee: kernel-bugs@opensuse.org Reporter: freek@opensuse.org QA Contact: qa-bugs@suse.de Found By: --- Blocker: --- After 'zypper dup' to tumbleweed:20221120 on an aarch64 system the name of the Ethernet device got the name end0 instead of remaining eth0. Because this device is not present in the firewall configuration, access to this system is not possible anymore. I do have access via a tty device. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug.

Booting/upgrading on 6.0.8 made ethernet card renamed. Symlinking from ifcfg-eth0 to ifcfg-end0 and ifroute-eth0 to ifroute-end0 did a trick. Anyway, the kernel 6.0.8 won't boot still on 2xRPi 4. So I need to boot to old one, 6.0.3 and via console update the interface files. I can't provide now more info why 6.0.8 won't boot, blank screen, cursor disapear and finally HDMI output is down on RPi. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug.
http://bugzilla.opensuse.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1205639 http://bugzilla.opensuse.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1205639#c4 --- Comment #4 from Freek de Kruijf <freek@opensuse.org> --- I also needed to change eth0 in the firewalld configuration, so a better solution is to enter the following in /etc/udev/rules.d/70-persistent-net.rules: SUBSYSTEM=="net", ACTION=="add", DRIVERS=="dwmac-sun8i", ATTR{dev_id}=="0x0",ATTR{type}=="1", ATTR{address}=="02:ba:f7:39:24:a4",NAM E="eth0" all on one line. This brings the name back to eth0, where items, DRIVERS and ATTR{address} are copied from: # hwinfo --network 18: None 00.0: 10701 Ethernet [Created at net.126] Unique ID: 5WpM.ndpeucax6V1 Parent ID: Euci.TfPFe67fIBB SysFS ID: /class/net/end0 SysFS Device Link: /devices/platform/soc/1c30000.ethernet Hardware Class: network interface Model: "Ethernet network interface" Driver: "dwmac-sun8i" Driver Modules: "dwmac_sun8i" Device File: end0 HW Address: 02:ba:f7:39:24:a4 Permanent HW Address: 02:ba:f7:39:24:a4 Link detected: yes Config Status: cfg=new, avail=yes, need=no, active=unknown Attached to: #3 (Ethernet controller) -- You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug.
http://bugzilla.opensuse.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1205639 http://bugzilla.opensuse.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1205639#c5 --- Comment #5 from Marcin Gondek <drixter@e-utp.net> --- After additional "zypper dup" today system boot properly with "6.0.8-1-default #1 SMP PREEMPT_DYNAMIC Fri Nov 11 08:02:50 UTC 2022 (1579d93) aarch64 aarch64 aarch64 GNU/Linux". So there is no need to force boot with 6.0.3. Network card is still "end0" -- You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug.
