The boot goes until just after the X window appears and the arrow curser arrives. I know it then goes into an infinite loop of repeated between the "drkonqi " s shown in the text below. Breaking in with <ctl><alt> F1 . And stopping the loop with a <ctl>C I get the following information copying from the screen startkde: Starting up ... kdeinit4: preparing to launch /usr/lib/kde4/libexec/launcher " /usr/bin/kded4 " /usr/bin/kbuildsycoca4 kbuldsycoca4 running ... kdeinit4 preparing to launch /usr/lib/kde4/libexec/kconf_update " /usr/bin/kcminit_startup " /usr/bin/ksmserver Application::crashHandler() called with signal 4; recent crashes: 1 KCrash: Application `kwin` crashing ... kdinit4: preparing to launch /usr/lib/kde4/libexec/drkonqi QObject: Do not delete object, `unnamed`, during its event handler! KCrash: Application `kwin` crashing ... kdinit4: preparing to launch /usr/lib/kde4/libexec/drkonqi etc I have hwinfo for the system. I can run twm if I do a xinit. I dont know if it is relevant. Creating X configuration... RuntimeError Usage: SaxManipulateKeyboard_setXKBVaiient(Self,QString const&,Qstring const &): If I start with text,failsafe it arrives safely to a login prompt. I use root and then startx. If I start with Vesa,failsafe it also arrives at login prompt. likewise I login as root and then startx. The same repeating messages appear on the screen.
