[Bug 339366] New: Problem with digital camera Canon Powershot A550 reset full speed USB device using uhci_hcd and address 8
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=339366#c1 Summary: Problem with digital camera Canon Powershot A550 reset full speed USB device using uhci_hcd and address 8 Product: openSUSE 10.3 Version: Final Platform: 32bit OS/Version: openSUSE 10.3 Status: NEW Severity: Normal Priority: P5 - None Component: Hotplug AssignedTo: bnc-team-screening@forge.provo.novell.com ReportedBy: opensuse@online.ms QAContact: qa@suse.de Found By: Other When plugging it into an arbitrary free usb-port it is recognized by KDE right away (camera icon pops up), but it takes ages (about 20-30 seconds) until it is accessible via konqueror. When copying images from the camera to a folder on the local hard disk the overall transfer rate is really slow (the image is copied ok, but after each image the progress "hangs" for several seconds). All this is acompanied by the folling dmesg-messages: usb 1-1.1.2: new full speed USB device using uhci_hcd and address 8 usb 1-1.1.2: new device found, idVendor=04a9, idProduct=3150 usb 1-1.1.2: new device strings: Mfr=1, Product=2, SerialNumber=3 usb 1-1.1.2: Product: Canon Digital Camera usb 1-1.1.2: Manufacturer: Canon Inc. usb 1-1.1.2: SerialNumber: 1E0C3F55EADF4F628CC92B882CE79D34 usb 1-1.1.2: configuration #1 chosen from 1 choice usb 1-1.1.2: reset full speed USB device using uhci_hcd and address 8 usb 1-1.1.2: reset full speed USB device using uhci_hcd and address 8 usb 1-1.1.2: reset full speed USB device using uhci_hcd and address 8 usb 1-1.1.2: reset full speed USB device using uhci_hcd and address 8 usb 1-1.1.2: reset full speed USB device using uhci_hcd and address 8 usb 1-1.1.2: reset full speed USB device using uhci_hcd and address 8 usb 1-1.1.2: reset full speed USB device using uhci_hcd and address 8 usb 1-1.1.2: reset full speed USB device using uhci_hcd and address 8 usb 1-1.1.2: reset full speed USB device using uhci_hcd and address 8 I have an Fujitsu Amilo M 7400 notebook with opensuse 10.3 with all the latest updates installed. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

Good Bug
can ypu please rtest the attached RPM, it has the reset disabled.
I installed it with rpm -Fhv libgphoto2-2.4.0-25.1.i586.rpm Yast now shows "2.4.0-25.1" as installed version for libgphoto2. Still the problem remains: usb 2-1.1.2: new full speed USB device using uhci_hcd and address 13 usb 2-1.1.2: new device found, idVendor=04a9, idProduct=3150 usb 2-1.1.2: new device strings: Mfr=1, Product=2, SerialNumber=3 usb 2-1.1.2: Product: Canon Digital Camera usb 2-1.1.2: Manufacturer: Canon Inc. usb 2-1.1.2: SerialNumber: 1E0C3F55EADF4F628CC92B882CE79D34 usb 2-1.1.2: configuration #1 chosen from 1 choice usb 2-1.1.2: reset full speed USB device using uhci_hcd and address 13 usb 2-1.1.2: reset full speed USB device using uhci_hcd and address 13 ^^^ until here it's pluggin in the camera. the rest is copying 4 pics to the HD: usb 2-1.1.2: reset full speed USB device using uhci_hcd and address 13 usb 2-1.1.2: reset full speed USB device using uhci_hcd and address 13 usb 2-1.1.2: reset full speed USB device using uhci_hcd and address 13 usb 2-1.1.2: reset full speed USB device using uhci_hcd and address 13 usb 2-1.1.2: reset full speed USB device using uhci_hcd and address 13 usb 2-1.1.2: reset full speed USB device using uhci_hcd and address 13 usb 2-1.1.2: reset full speed USB device using uhci_hcd and address 13 usb 2-1.1.2: reset full speed USB device using uhci_hcd and address 13 is there anything I have to do to "activate" the new lib? (I tried to kill all my userspace processes that showed up with "lsof | grep gphoto" to prevent some "stale" usage of the lib, but no change afterwards) -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

Ooops.
I accidently did not apply the patch... Can yoiu please test this one?
Now it works - no more "reset ..." messages anymore :-) The transfer of pictures to the HD appears to be faster - but not a lot :-/ I still see quite a difference in konqueror between selecting all the image files and drop them to a directory on the hd (this works fast) and dragging and dropping the whole folder in the "root" directory of the camera to the local hd (this works slow: it still takes about 5 seconds for the copy process to start, saying "initializing camera" and it still has short pauses between every file, saying again "initializing camera" in the progress window). -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

this is more or less a conceptual problem in the KDE KIO camera:/ slave
this is what I was suspecting
which I tried to address already, but so far have not fully done so.
The slave will close and reinit the camera in some scenarios and sinc the open takes some time, you see those delays.
I have to suggest using "digikam" or the "gphoto2" commandline for faster access. :/
I will do that. Thanks again for your work and advice :-) -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
