[Bug 204362] New: YaST ldap-client misses to add +-Line to /etc/shadow
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=204362 Summary: YaST ldap-client misses to add +-Line to /etc/shadow Product: openSUSE 10.2 Version: Alpha 4 Platform: Other OS/Version: Other Status: NEW Severity: Normal Priority: P5 - None Component: YaST2 AssignedTo: jsuchome@novell.com ReportedBy: rhafer@novell.com QAContact: jsrain@novell.com CC: kukuk@novell.com When setting up an LDAP client with YaST it should add the line: +:::::::: to /etc/shadow. Otherwise the shadow functions like getspnam() will not work against LDAP Users this will e.g. result in strange error messages from pam_unix2. NIS Clients might need the same. https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=204362 jsuchome@novell.com changed: What |Removed |Added ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Status|NEW |ASSIGNED ------- Comment #1 from jsuchome@novell.com 2006-09-08 01:09 MST ------- yast2-nis-client writes single "+" to /etc/shadow. yast2-ldap-client only modifies /etc/passwd and /etc/group. I don't know why - did we (I) simply overlooked it before or was that by intention? Anyway, should it write really +:::::::: or only + just like the nis-client? Or should the entry for nis-client be adapted? (BTW, for passwd, both yast2 modules write +:::::: and +::: for group). -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is. --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-bugs+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-bugs+help@opensuse.org
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=204362 ------- Comment #2 from kukuk@novell.com 2006-09-08 01:51 MST ------- A single + is always enough, but other tools can change it to "+::::::::". Both are identical. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is. --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-bugs+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-bugs+help@opensuse.org
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=204362 ------- Comment #3 from jsuchome@novell.com 2006-09-08 07:01 MST ------- yast2-ldap-client does not remove any + lines - it's adding them at the end of /etc/ files regardless the fast LDAP is going to be enabled or disabled. I have a feeling that someone told me to do so, but I'm not really sure. Is it ok to leave it that way or should the + lines be removed when ldap is tuned off? (I assume the reason for not removing was that we don't know if they are not needed for other - say, compat - service). -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.

How does NIS client behave when you disable it? I think yast2-ldap-client should behave like yast2-nis-client in this case. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=204362 ------- Comment #5 from jsuchome@novell.com 2006-09-08 07:29 MST ------- yast2-nis-client doesn't alter +lines if NIS has been disabled. So the current differnce is that yast2-ldap-client writes them always (even for disabling). None of those modules removes the the lines. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.
