I just had assumed that mpi-selector came from the same guys. And the mpi-selector set values can be made available right away, it just can"t really be automated AFAICS. Just do '. /etc/profile.d/mpi-selector.sh' i.e. run the command that a login shell does and the just set values will be effective.
