it "works" fine here.
could you describe a little further what do you mean by "it does work" ?
What are you doing exactly ?
I'm issuing "init 3" and "init 5". The "init 3" command is expected to switch to text mode, but here it fails to do so, gdm is not killed and graphics mode remain active. It works correctly when I use KDM instead of GDM.
please reboot your systemd and add "systemd.log_level=debug systemd.log_target=kmsg"
To what file do I add that? To grub? I'll assume you mean grub.
and attach dmesg output after you do "init 3"
Well, it works. A case of observation modifying the experiment. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

If you see it appear again, in real hardware, reopen the bug report, vmware isnt something we can fix if there is a bug on it.
It is certainly not a bug in vmware player, it was a bug in systemd, and reproducible. Other people reproduced it. About your opinion on vmplayer, I'm sure your employer, and other of your coworkers, do not agree. They are interested in bugs showing in vmware guests when the guest is *SUSE. Which is different on bugs in vmware when the host is *SUSE. If you are interested, my laptop, which is not yet updated, does have the symptoms. Real Hardware. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

About your opinion on vmplayer, I'm sure your employer,
Do you see my email address ? I am an opensuse contributor, just like you, I have stopped working for SUSE since a long time.

It works on test number 1 and 3. Testing several times more, it fails some of the tests, and works the rest. If you hadn't said anything about vmware, I would not have tested it. Tests done in my laptop. I first tried without updating (systemd-37-3.8.1.x86_64). I logged into gnome, and then issued "init 3" from another computer via ssh. No effect at all. Then I updated to "systemd-37-3.153.1.x86_64" from your repo, rebooted, and did the same test, it worked. Another init 5, worked. Another init 3 without been logged into gnome (ie, I issue all the init commands via ssh from another computer) and nothing happens. When I try to log in the still running gdm it crashes and I'm dumped in text mode. So the problem I initially reported is still there. Sorry, I know other issues have been solved, but this particular one is still present. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

I try again, and it works correctly. I do the cycle half a dozen times and it works every time - it only fails the first time. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
