[Bug 241933] New: Erratic backlight strength
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=241933 Summary: Erratic backlight strength Product: openSUSE 10.2 Version: Final Platform: i686 OS/Version: Other Status: NEW Severity: Normal Priority: P5 - None Component: GNOME - Platform AssignedTo: bnc-team-gnome-platform@forge.provo.novell.com ReportedBy: hpj@novell.com QAContact: qa@suse.de I just installed OpenSuSE 10.2 GM on the T42p laptop I'm using, keeping my old homedir. If I leave the laptop alone for a while, the backlight strength will change in an erratic fashion. Sometimes it will dim successfully, other times it will dim and then immediately be set back to high strength, and yet other times it will get into a state where it flickers very quickly between dimmed and high strength. The flickering will stop after I interact with the laptop for a while (but not immediately). When this happens, the backlight strengh centered mini-window will show up, and it will remain for as long as the flickering goes on. The CPU consumption will be at 100%, and this also ceases along with the flickering. I managed to get some 'top' output during flickering: 3479 root 17 0 87064 47m 10m S 73.6 4.7 23:57.82 X 3913 hpj 15 0 16444 3160 2108 S 21.0 0.3 2:21.89 gnome-screensav 2550 messageb 15 0 3808 1156 732 S 0.7 0.1 0:23.58 dbus-daemon 2593 haldaemo 15 0 5740 2372 1864 S 0.7 0.2 0:37.29 hald 2594 root 25 0 2948 1044 924 R 0.3 0.1 0:01.65 hald-runner -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.

https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=241933 ------- Comment #2 from hmacht@novell.com 2007-02-15 03:00 MST ------- If gnome-power-manager is running, he is responsible for display brightness. This issue sounds to me as there is something wrong with the idle detection of the user. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.
