After a little digging I believe this is due to the fact that one is being detected as the usb:// address and the other as the hal:// address. That's admittedly with i586 rather than x86_64. On 10.3 x86_64 (didn't have 10.2 available), I'm similarly unable to reproduce the bug. I just submitted a patch to STABLE that attempts to filter duplicate printers from the list. It does this by comparing the IEEE printer ids, if available, or looking at the make/model field from the cups backend output.
