https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=455737 Summary: lilo (on PowerPC) doesn't configure bootable RC1 kernel Product: openSUSE 11.1 Version: RC 1 Platform: PowerPC OS/Version: Other Status: NEW Severity: Major Priority: P5 - None Component: Bootloader AssignedTo: jsrain@novell.com ReportedBy: poeml@novell.com QAContact: jsrain@novell.com Found By: --- Hi, this is about lilo on PowerPC. I updated to 11.1 RC1 and lilo runs with the following output: root@cherry ~ # lilo Warning: macosx: image = : No such file or directory running on pmac_new BOOT_DEVICEPATH = &device;:&partition; OTHER_DEVICEPATH = &device;:4 Volume name is "boot" Volume was created on Thu Mar 2 11:26:11 2006 Volume was last modified on Mon Dec 1 18:51:30 2008 Volume has 6718464 bytes free boot:suseboot: f FNDR/MACS 286 0 Sep 14 1999 Finder f zsys/MACS 243673 0 May 25 2001 System f ????/UNIX 0 2359209 Nov 9 2006 initrd f ????/UNIX 0 5198838 Nov 9 2006 vmlinux f ????/UNIX 0 5577036 Nov 9 2006 vmlinux-2.6.12.1-1-default f BINA/UNIX 0 397786 Dec 2 21:02 yaboot f TEXT/R*ch 0 560 Dec 2 21:02 yaboot.conf f tbxi/chrp 0 3001 Dec 2 21:02 os-chooser f ????/UNIX 0 7384417 Dec 2 21:02 vmlinux.001 f ????/UNIX 0 5950212 Dec 2 21:02 initrd.001 f ????/UNIX 0 7390705 Dec 2 21:02 vmlinux.002 f ????/UNIX 0 5949528 Dec 2 21:02 initrd.002 f ????/UNIX 0 7384417 Dec 2 21:02 vmlinux.003 f ????/UNIX 0 5577036 Dec 2 21:02 vmlinux.004 f ????/UNIX 0 5577036 Dec 2 21:02 vmlinux.005 set OF boot-device /pci@f2000000/mac-io@17/ata-4@1f000/disk@0:2,\\:tbxi lilo 2.04s user 3.48s system 39% cpu 13.819 total The "Warning: macosx: image = : No such file or directory" is new. Now to the problem. The configured kernel isn't booted. I can boot the previous (11.0) kernel, though (luckily). I'll attach the lilo.conf. The first entry is the new kernel that doesn't boot; the second entry is the old kernel that still boots (manually). What do you mean the kernel is not booted? Is it copied correctly to the hfs partition? -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

I can't give the exact boot failure message, I only shortly saw it twice on the screen. Unfortunately I don't have an opportunity to check again until next week, because I'm not at home. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

This is the G3 Pismo by the way. One thing to add is that the boot partition was too full when I previously attempted to run lilo. So I deinstalled some kernels and reran lilo, which seemingly went fine. But maybe the current kernel is broken on the boot partition, and not copied again? -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
