[Bug 225781] New: linux-atm-lib is needed for DSL, but not installed by default
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=225781 Summary: linux-atm-lib is needed for DSL, but not installed by default Product: openSUSE 10.2 Version: RC 5 Platform: Other OS/Version: Other Status: NEW Severity: Normal Priority: P5 - None Component: Installation AssignedTo: bnc-team-screening@forge.provo.novell.com ReportedBy: dkukawka@novell.com QAContact: jsrain@novell.com Yast provide a DSL config part. But if I try to configure DSL via PPPoE, I need to install linux-atm-lib. This is a 20KByte package. Why is this rpm not installed by default if smpppd or the yast-dsl part get installed? It's really annoying if you are not online or have no DVD available and try to config DSL and you need this package, but can't get it. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.

Joachim does the dependency makes sense for smpppd or thinking about pattern for that is better? -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.

I guess ppp does not depend on it because it is not needed for modem users. But we could add linux-atm-lib as recommended package to ppp, so it would get installed with ppp, but could be uninstalled without breaking dependencies. Henne? Another possibility would be making yast2-network trigger installation of linux-atm-lib when the user configures dsl. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.

The trigger is there at the end of configuration I am afraid that this idea (recommended package) will not solve this problem. I see two possibilities: 1 - Danny, why you don't configure your dsl connection in installation time? 2 - create a new pattern for dsl internet connection with all rewuired packages ("yast2-network", "smpppd", "ppp", "pptp", "linux-atm-lib") Andreas, does this pattern make sense? -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=225781 ------- Comment #8 from adrian@novell.com 2006-12-11 05:53 MST ------- JFYI, there is no yast-dsl package anymore, it gets provided by yast2-network. Michal, do I understand this right: 1. linux-atm-lib gets installed, when you configure DSL at installation time. 2. If you configure DSL at a later point of time, the YaST interface prompts you to install linux-atm-lib or requests to insert a media for being able to install it ? -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=225781 ------- Comment #9 from mzugec@novell.com 2006-12-11 06:05 MST ------- yast check whether linux-atm-lib is installed or not at the end of configuration (in Write() function) by yast2-dsl module packaged in yast2-network. Then if not found it, will install it. Danny's problem is that he starts this module after installation from other location (when he don't have access to instalation source) so : 1 - yes - but this is workarround, not solution 2 - yes - this is description of this bugreport -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=225781 ------- Comment #10 from adrian@novell.com 2006-12-11 06:16 MST ------- okay, so this is imho nothing what we should fix for 10.2, since it is anyway hardly to do with an online update (esp. since the problem appears only, when you have not yet configured your internet access). I would even not think this is a bug, maybe a missing feature. For 10.3, I would propose to pre-install linux-atm-lib, if it doesn't hurt (20kb does not sound so). -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.
