[Bug 579219] New: Wrong kernel module used for D-Link DGE-550T: loads idg, should be dl2k
http://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=579219 http://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=579219#c0 Summary: Wrong kernel module used for D-Link DGE-550T: loads idg, should be dl2k Classification: openSUSE Product: openSUSE 11.2 Version: Final Platform: x86 OS/Version: openSUSE 11.2 Status: NEW Severity: Normal Priority: P5 - None Component: Kernel AssignedTo: kernel-maintainers@forge.provo.novell.com ReportedBy: phil@philjordan.eu QAContact: qa@suse.de Found By: --- Blocker: --- User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux x86_64; en-US) AppleWebKit/532.5 (KHTML, like Gecko) Chrome/4.0.249.43 Safari/532.5 The D-Link DGE-550T PCI Ethernet card is detected by OpenSUSE, but assigned to the wrong kernel module. The correct driver is "dl2k", "idg" is loaded instead. No other device in the system uses the "idg" driver; dl2k simply never gets loaded. If I manually run "rmmod idg; modprobe dl2k" everything works as expected. As a work-around I've blacklisted idg in /etc/modprobe.d/ but this breaks after every system upgrade. The problem existed on 11.1 as well, 11.2 does not fix it. I don't know about earlier versions. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. Set up computer with D-Link DGE-550T Gigabit Ethernet card 2. Install OpenSUSE 11.2 or 11.1 3. Boot the system 4. Attempt to use the network Actual Results: The "ipg" Sundance Ethernet driver is loaded by default. Network appears to work for a short amount of time (ping, DNS), then simply stops working entirely when you try to transfer larger amounts of data (e.g. http). Expected Results: The "dl2k" driver is the correct one for this device, and should be the one loaded by OpenSUSE. Relevant output from lspci -nn -v -k (once the correct module has been loaded): 00:08.0 Ethernet controller [0200]: D-Link System Inc DL2000-based Gigabit Ethernet [1186:4000] (rev 0c) Subsystem: D-Link System Inc DL2000-based Gigabit Ethernet [1186:4000] Flags: bus master, 66MHz, medium devsel, latency 32, IRQ 16 I/O ports at dc00 [size=256] Memory at fd001000 (32-bit, non-prefetchable) [size=512] [virtual] Expansion ROM at 40100000 [disabled] [size=64K] Capabilities: [50] Power Management version 2 Kernel driver in use: dl2k -- Configure bugmail: http://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
