I was also able to run a zypper dup and get a fresh kernel, which configured and booted properly. zypper dup is working normally now, and you may close this ticket from my point of view. I do wonder how dracut wanted ZFS, and how it failed to write and initrd and let the install process continue. Those remain mysteries to me. Thank you for helping me to get this sorted out!
