[Bug 936418] New: Support for Xen in conjunction with Grub2 broken on UEFI machines
http://bugzilla.opensuse.org/show_bug.cgi?id=936418 Bug ID: 936418 Summary: Support for Xen in conjunction with Grub2 broken on UEFI machines Classification: openSUSE Product: openSUSE Distribution Version: 13.2 Hardware: x86-64 OS: openSUSE 13.2 Status: NEW Severity: Critical Priority: P5 - None Component: Bootloader Assignee: jsrain@suse.com Reporter: olafmartens@web.de QA Contact: jsrain@suse.com Found By: --- Blocker: --- When attempting to launch the Xen hypervisor from Grub2 on a machine that runs with UEFI, the process fails. Depending on secure boot settings this happens either immediately (i. e. Grub refuses to load xen and immediately returns to the boot menu) or after attempting to launch Xen and boot up the kernel. In this event the machine unexpectedly resets. Switching repositories back to openSuSE from Virtualization doesn't help, either, so Grub displays the same symptoms with either repository. Booting a desktop kernel, however, works without any problems. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug.

When attempting to launch the Xen hypervisor from Grub2 on a machine that runs with UEFI, the process fails. Depending on secure boot settings this happens either immediately (i. e. Grub refuses to load xen and immediately returns to the boot menu) or after attempting to launch Xen and boot up the kernel.
Please help to clarify how secure boot settings affect the result? There are quite some possibilities from it as the "settings" could be in firmware or in yast bootloader. For eg, Set Firmware Secure Boot OFF: "Grub refuses to load xen and immediately return to boot menu" Set Firmware Secure Boot ON: "after attempting to launch Xen and boot up the kernel." The former (ie Grub refuses to load xen ) looks like grub problem and the latter looks like a problem in xen.efi. And please help to provide tar archive of EFI System Partition and grub.cfg tar zcvf .tgz /boot/efi/EFI /boot/grub2/grub.cfg Also the output of efibootmgr -v Thanks. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug.
