[Bug 692360] New: GNOME3 + nvidia (commerical and nouveau) + garbage screen
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=692360 https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=692360#c0 Summary: GNOME3 + nvidia (commerical and nouveau) + garbage screen Classification: openSUSE Product: openSUSE 11.4 Version: Final Platform: i686 OS/Version: openSUSE 11.4 Status: NEW Severity: Major Priority: P5 - None Component: GNOME AssignedTo: bnc-team-gnome@forge.provo.novell.com ReportedBy: line72@line72.net QAContact: qa@suse.de Found By: --- Blocker: --- Created an attachment (id=428477) --> (http://bugzilla.novell.com/attachment.cgi?id=428477) garbage screen I started off with a fresh install of 11.4, then installed GNOME3 by following the easy, one click directions here: http://en.opensuse.org/openSUSE:GNOME_3.0 My laptop is a 32-bit intel, with an nvidia geforce go 7300. I am using the nouveau driver along with the Mesa-nouveau3d for 3d support. After a reboot, everything worked fine. Although a little slow with the nouveau driver, I found no major problems. A day later, I was notified by the system of updates. I performed the updates which included an updated kernel. After a reboot, I logged into gnome 3 and found the complete screen is garbage and completely unusable. Gnome 3 did not detect a problem and revert to fallback mode. I then installed the nvidia driver using these instructions: http://en.opensuse.org/SDB:NVIDIA_drivers I rebooted, logged into gnome 3, and still found that all the graphics were garbage. I logged into iceWM and verified the correct setup of the nvidia drivers and 3D support. I don't know what changed in that minor update that caused gnome 3 to stop working. My only work around has been to uninstall the nvidia drivers, revert back to nouveau, and uninstall the Mesa-nouveau3d. Without 3D support, gnome detects and goes into the safe fallback mode correctly. While I can now log in, unfortunately, I lose all the benefits of having gnome 3 installed. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
