[Bug 395685] New: Plasma spikes CPU in KDE 4.1 (4.0.80)
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=395685 Summary: Plasma spikes CPU in KDE 4.1 (4.0.80) Product: openSUSE 11.0 Version: RC 1 Platform: x86-64 OS/Version: openSUSE 11.0 Status: NEW Severity: Major Priority: P5 - None Component: KDE4 Workspace AssignedTo: kde-maintainers@suse.de ReportedBy: elsewhere@rogers.com QAContact: qa@suse.de Found By: --- Currently using 11.0, but have been using 4.1 snapshots through previous 10.3 and now 11.0. Since updating to 4.1 beta (4.0.80) from the previous snapshot, 4.0.78, plamsa now averages somewhere around 50-60% CPU utilization on my system (dualcore 2.2G) from login, with no other applications running. Have not seen this behavior previously, but my laptop fans are now working overtime and blowing air that is hot enough to dry my hair after a shower. In the several months that I've had this laptop, I've never experienced it get hot, until now. Updates to factory and KDE4/UNSTABLE are current as of this report. Not sure what other diagnostic info I can provide, other than laptop specs: Dell Vostro, 2.2G C2Duo, 2GB RAM, nVidia 8600 GT (using nVidia proprietary driver), Intel 3945 wifi, not sure what else could be problematic. As I said, it's been working fine until now, and in fact it still works fine, desktop effects etc. except for the fact the CPU is working harder than it has ever worked. I suspect this is a bug upstream, since I've seen the odd mention of it previously in kde-related postings in the past, but this is the first time I've experienced it, so I'm posting it here. I'll let you guys, knowing much more than me, decided whether to bump it upstream or not... ;) Let me know if there are any additional details I can provide. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

Just to verify, I added it back in, and plasma immediately spiked up back to
50% CPU. So I guess it's related to that applet, though I'm not sure if the applet is a symptom of the problem, or the actual cause.
