[Bug 1233272] New: MozillaFirefox suddenly has a dependency on the Firefox ESR
https://bugzilla.suse.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1233272 Bug ID: 1233272 Summary: MozillaFirefox suddenly has a dependency on the Firefox ESR Classification: openSUSE Product: openSUSE Distribution Version: Leap 15.5 Hardware: x86-64 OS: openSUSE Leap 15.5 Status: NEW Severity: Normal Priority: P5 - None Component: Firefox Assignee: factory-mozilla@lists.opensuse.org Reporter: reni@vivaldi.net QA Contact: qa-bugs@suse.de Target Milestone: --- Found By: --- Blocker: --- Hello, openSUSE Leap 15.5 with KDE Plasma 5.27.9. I always install Firefox from the Mozilla repo: https://download.opensuse.org/repositories/mozilla/openSUSE_Leap_15.5/ Since a few days firefox-esr should be installed additionally with every Firefox update. If I block this with “zypper al”, MozillaThunderbird is supposed to be installed. After I also block Thunderbird, the update goes through without any problems, even without additional installations. Only “kmozillahelper” can no longer be installed, because then all Firefox versions should be downgraded. This means that my KDE integration is not clean. Where do these dependencies come from? -- You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug.

The recent MozillaFirefox does not use kmozillahelper anymore but it is installed so the dependency system searches any other application supporting it. I'm wondering why removing kmozillahelper would like to downgrade MozillaFirefox though. Resolving bug 1226112 would fix this for sure but still unclear to me why it doesn't work already. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug.

https://bugzilla.suse.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1233272 https://bugzilla.suse.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1233272#c3 --- Comment #3 from Neike <reni@vivaldi.net> --- Sorry, my mistake in the explanation. If MozillaFirefox gets an update, then Firefox-ESR should also be installed. That is actually my problem. If I block the ESR, then suddenly Thunderbird should be installed additionally. Block both and an update is running. If I want to install kmozillahelper (because of KDE integration), Firefox-ESR should also be installed. I don't understand that. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug.
https://bugzilla.suse.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1233272 https://bugzilla.suse.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1233272#c4 --- Comment #4 from Wolfgang Rosenauer <wolfgang@rosenauer.org> --- Ok, that matches my understanding and I can at least understand it. No, it's not perfect because that is some sort of circular dependency which maybe was required as safeguard in the past. Therefore: 1. the next Thunderbird package which will be published in mozilla within this week (most likely) will do the same step as MozillaFirefox and zypper will then not give you a choice of Thunderbird or Firefox ESR but only the latter 2. when bug 1226112 will be finally fixed the problem is gone completely and this will likely happen during the next 2-3 weeks as well Apart from that it still sounds like you can just remove kmozillahelper as a package and be good? The package MozillaFirefox does not use it anyway any longer. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug.
