[Bug 585133] New: Need way to insert arbitrary unicode characters in Kubuntu
http://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=585133 http://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=585133#c0 Summary: Need way to insert arbitrary unicode characters in Kubuntu Classification: openSUSE Product: openSUSE 11.3 Version: Factory Platform: i386 OS/Version: openSUSE 11.3 Status: NEW Severity: Enhancement Priority: P5 - None Component: KDE4 Workspace AssignedTo: kde-maintainers@suse.de ReportedBy: novell@dotancohen.com QAContact: qa@suse.de Found By: --- Blocker: --- User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux i686; he-IL; rv:1.9.1.8) Gecko/20100214 Ubuntu/9.10 (karmic) Firefox/3.5.8 KDE, Qt, and Xorg are in disagreement about who should implement ISO 14755, which would facilitate the input of arbitrary unicode characters. This is the original KDE bug: https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=103788 It was pushed upstream to Qt: http://bugreports.qt.nokia.com/browse/QTBUG-8
From there it was pushed further upstream to Xorg: https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=26747
Xorg pushes the bug downstream, back to either Qt or KDE to implement, just as Gnome implemented the fix themselves. An Xorg developer who does not want to be named says that if KDE won't implement it then my distro should. So here I file that request. Note that in KDE 3 one could use the Kcharselect applet to enter arbitrary unicode characters, however that has been disabled in KDE 4: https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=190776 Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. 2. 3. -- Configure bugmail: http://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

Dotan, did Kubuntu tell you to go ask SUSE to implement this for them?
Hehe, no!
Oh and are you just on a sabbatical with Kubuntu or is this forever?
I like to distro hop, I am currently on a Debian system as I have troubles with running Anki on Suse. But I'll be back as no other distro has KDE like Suse has! :) -- Configure bugmail: http://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

As the x.org bugreport is open, closing this one. KDE is not the right place and I'm afraid we don't have the resources for such details, sorry. Use KCharSelect if necessary. -- Configure bugmail: http://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
