[Bug 842378] New: gnome-music does not recognise or play mp3 files
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=842378 https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=842378#c0 Summary: gnome-music does not recognise or play mp3 files Classification: openSUSE Product: openSUSE Factory Version: 13.1 Beta 1 Platform: x86-64 OS/Version: SUSE Other Status: NEW Severity: Major Priority: P5 - None Component: GNOME AssignedTo: bnc-team-gnome@forge.provo.novell.com ReportedBy: badshah400@gmail.com QAContact: qa-bugs@suse.de Found By: --- Blocker: --- Created an attachment (id=560122) --> (http://bugzilla.novell.com/attachment.cgi?id=560122) Screenshot showing broken behaviour of gnome-music User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Linux x86_64; rv:23.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/23.0 gnome-music fails to recognise or play mp3 files kept in $HOME/Music and keeps asking one to add some files to the same directory instead. The application looks broken, it also crashes when clicking on the search icon. Note that I have added the req. codecs, so these mp3 files play on rhythmbox and totem on the same system. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1.Keep mp3 file in the Music directory ($HOME/Music) 2.Launch gnome-music Actual Results: Does not recognise the mp3 files and asks user to add some music files to the same directory (Music) regardless Expected Results: Should recognise and list the music stored in the Music directory -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

Did tracker finish indexing your collection / disk yet? GNOME-Music only extracts music from what tracker finds. So the expectation might simply be wrong. You can verify the status of tracker using tracker-control As for the crash when clicking the 'search' icon: it's not a 'SEARCH' capability 9yet), it's a filter, based on loaded items from the tracker store -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

tracker-sparql -q "SELECT nie:title(?song) WHERE { ?song a nmm:MusicPiece }"
shows
None.
Seems like a problem with tracker.
Indeed. Cab you check the settings of tracker, using tracker-preferences? (did you ever reconfigure it?) -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

Does / do the file(s) have ID3Tags configured? (It should end up as 'Unknown Artist' otherwise, but who knows). Also, maybe it's worthy to reset the tracker database:
tracker-control -r tracker-control -s
then monitor progress by simply issuing 'tracker-control' -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

Running: 'tracker-control -r && tracker-control -s' then waiting for the miners to finish indexing seems to have fixed it. Filter works, songs play properly, playlist works, seems to fix the problem. I did have a tracker index from older install (12.3, GNOME 3.8), perhaps there's a difference in the database between the versions that require it to be rebuilt in order to work properly? -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

This does NOT mean we are not willing to work on this issue together with you; should you be able to provide the information asked for, you can simply add this information and change the status back to REOPENED, which will resume the ticket immediately. Thanks to comment#3 above, I used tracker-needle and searched for "mp3". When I clicked on a mp3 file, it opened it in totem and a popup suggested that necessary package isn't installed. After installing gstreamer-fluendo-mp3, gnome-music is able to play all mp3 files. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
