[Bug 274073] New: Network CUPS server corruption due to unknown fault?
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=274073 Summary: Network CUPS server corruption due to unknown fault? Product: openSUSE 10.2 Version: Final Platform: i586 OS/Version: Other Status: NEW Severity: Major Priority: P5 - None Component: Printing AssignedTo: jsmeix@novell.com ReportedBy: alpha096@tpg.com.au QAContact: jsmeix@novell.com Apologies my title is not helpful. I have a file/print server CUPS that after being set up they just sit there, with the exception of running Klogviewer and applying updates. This is the second time this has occurred. The first was when I did an upgrade from 10.1-10.2 o.k for a while then corruption. I did a New installation, CUPS works fine, however this morning I cannot even access CUPS administration. Quote The error on accessing the Cups Server is http://localhost:631/ 404 Not Found End quote The functionality of the cups print server is non functional. I trust the logs will indicate where this issue lies. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.

The problem seems to be that Authentication data are required (user/passwort), but they are not received at the cups server. Here is the relevant part of the logfile (/var/log/cups/error_log): D [13/May/2007:09:19:25 +1000] cupsdAuthorize: No authentication data provided. Don't know why this happens. I think the wording is misleading because "easy" should be named "normal security for normal system usage" and "secure" should be named "very high security". and "paranoid" makes the system virtually unusable. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.

Several files need to have a special permission/ownership, which has been introduced through cups-1.2.x (>= SuSE 10.2). https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=274073 ------- Comment #13 from alpha096@tpg.com.au 2007-05-22 17:21 MST ------- In-light of comment #12 - I cannot think of 1 commonality in but installations which produced the same error on entering http://localhost:631/. In light of the above information it would appear that changing the file permissions to secure had nothing to do with the cups server both failing and being inaccessible via http://localhost:631/ I can think of no user interaction which would have changed the cupsd.conf ownership and group. - I have still preserved the installation if further file log will be of assistance. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.

https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=274073 ------- Comment #15 from alpha096@tpg.com.au 2007-06-05 20:45 MST ------- I was able to resolve the situations with a degree of ease by deleting ALL the config type file in /etc/cups and re-installing ALL the files under the software management filter "patters" Print Server. F.Y.I Also my printer a Lexmark Printer is not listed and I installed their driver, via "Install with Yast" and nothing was added to the list of available printer as it would seem. http://downloads.lexmark.com/cgi-perl/downloads.cgi?ccs=15:1:0:451:0:0&searchLang=en&os_group=SuSE&target= I could not find any associated or new .ppd file at all. I can print by using a generic PCL5 printer driver from HP which has just about the same printable page area as my printer under test. I dont know if the file URL is not installing correctly or if the file is at fault, however the installation of the file (URL) does not appear to install anywhere near the amount of drivers it contains. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.
