I've just checked with KDE Font Installer (as root), and all the fonts seem to be there, including the MS fonts (I can't tell if those fonts are the one I >> had under openSUSE 11.1 before upgrading or if fetchmsttfonts has re-installed the MS fonts).
To check this, I removed the 'fetchmsttfonts' and 'pullin-msttf-fonts' packages, and now, the MS fonts are gone from /usr/share/fonts/truetype So the font were in fact added by fetchmsttfonts, but somehow the system does not see/use them. (?)
It's more weird than that. The MS fonts were indeed removed from /usr/share/fonts/truetype but KDE Font Installer still showed all fonts (including the MS one, so those are the ones I had under 11.1), but still enable to show a preview for ANY font. Opening 'qtconfig' from a root console, I can select any font and it render fine in the preview gadget. Also, in openoffice.org (under Gnome), I can access all the fonts (and the list of fonts is previewed correctly). In the end, I'm not so sure the fonts problem I first spotted in web pages rendered by FireFox are related to fetchmsttfonts. A qt/gtk font configuration conflict ??? Today I've seen this a second time while upgrading a system from openSUSE 11.1 to 11.2.
For testing purposes, I did remove both fetchmsttfonts and pullin-msttf-fonts, then install them again (pullin-msttf-fonts 11.2-6.6.7 then fetchmsttfonts 11.2-6.6.12). All the fonts were properly downloaded and installed in /usr/share/fonts/truetype (I'm still having problem with fonts however, like FireFox not using the Arial font as it used to do under openSUSE 11.1.) Can you try to remove/re-install both packages to check if the MS fonts are installed and system wide available ? -- Configure bugmail: http://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

A qt/gtk font configuration conflict ??? Where are (or where should be) the fonts seen by KDE Font Installer ?
With the fetchmsttfonts and pullin-msttf-fonts packages uninstalled, I can still, eg., select the Arial font in gnome-panel -> Appearance -> Fonts Where does gnome-panel find this font as there is no Arial.ttf in /usr/share/fonts/truetype ? -- Configure bugmail: http://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

From the following two commands it looks like the files are ok. I've not checked the source rpm how the file list is constructed.

I don't see the reason behind the test suggested with comment #7.
Yep, sorry. I'm monitoring several bug reports and discussions on openSUSE forum, and had in mind that this report was about fetchmsttfonts failing to install the fonts. (Probably got confused by comments in Bug #514934 - ms tt fonts fetched by fetchmsttfonts dont register. I still don't know at this point if fetchmsttfonts works or not. With or without it, it does not make any change in my MS fonts problem.) Sorry again. -- Configure bugmail: http://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

i havent actually tested that the fonts work I have to admit, just that the downloader works.
have to run tests next week
I finally discovered that my mysterious "ghost" MS fonts were in /usr/local/share/fonts To test fetchmsttfonts, I renamed that fonts/ directory and ran "SuSEconfig --module fonts". I quickly checked from applications that no more MS fonts were listed (and they were idded gone). I installed pullin-msttf-fonts, then fetchmsttfonts, and all went fine: ***fonts installed*** I checked again in applications, and the MS fonts were listed and previewed. So, for me, fetchmsttfonts does its job. The problem I have with KDE Font Installer is probably due to a bug in KDE. I don't know about the "washed" fonts in FireFox, but this is not because of some missing MS fonts. -- Configure bugmail: http://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
