This is not a bug.
Interesting. Would you like to share with us, how you know it is not a bug ? For instance, which line in cmp is valgrind falsely claiming to be in error ? Either valgrind is correct and there is a bug in cmp, which needs fixing, or valgrind is wrong and valgrind needs fixing. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.

How do you know ? What investigation have you done to reach this conclusion ? As far as I can see, you haven't let us know how both valgrind and cmp aren't broken, yet valgrind finds fault in cmp. I think this is very similar to the first question I asked. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.

If you think that this is a bug then prove it.
You aren't listening: I'll try again: Either valgrind is correct and there is a bug in cmp, which needs fixing, or valgrind is wrong and valgrind needs fixing. @David: Like providing the place in the source code of cmp that corresponds to the address valgrind reports.
I'm not sure you want me doing your job for you. See bug number 248717 for how this kind of thing has been done successfully in the past. A reasonable first step appears to be to create a version of /usr/bin/cmp built with -g switched on. I don't have one of those, or the means to create one, hence the bug report. Then suggest run the new version of /usr/bin/cmp to find out which line of code valgrind is claiming is going wrong. The decide which one is correct: cmp or valgrind. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.
