[Bug 466267] New: Mouse pointer issues in Xen Virtual Machine Console
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=466267 Summary: Mouse pointer issues in Xen Virtual Machine Console Classification: openSUSE Product: openSUSE 11.1 Version: Final Platform: Other OS/Version: Other Status: NEW Severity: Major Priority: P5 - None Component: Xen AssignedTo: cgriffin@novell.com ReportedBy: terje@nordland-teknikk.no QAContact: qa@suse.de Found By: --- After installing fullvirtualized Xen guests, both WindowsXP vm, rhel5 (CentOS5.2) vm and openSUSE 10.3 vm on various openSUSE/SLE platforms, there has been mouse pointer issues - during gui installation in the TightVNC window (had to continue with keybard) - and after login to the gui desktop in the Virtual Machine Console (VMC) CTRL+ALT helps to lock the mouse to the vm desktop. But the mouse pointer doesn't move smoothly (jumps) and can be prohibited or difficult to locate on and access menus on the desktop top or bottom bar. Works like a faulty bad roller mouse. Scrolling with the mouse wheel in configuration menus, has caused the windowsxp vmc to freeze for a while. This mouse issue cause that fullvirtualized Xen vm desktop guest are practical unuseable from the Virtual Machine Console (VMC). And as external connection to Windowsxp vm using rdesktop and i.e 'ssh -X' or 'NX' to the Linux vm desktops don't have this mouse pointer issues, it looks to be a specific related to TightVNC and VMC. 1. What about making these Xen Windows GPL PV drivers available also for openSUSE, maybe these can help on this mouse issue beside better performance? http://wiki.xensource.com/xenwiki/XenWindowsGplPv 2. Maybe this Xen Mouse Howto document has som preconfiguration/tuning tip? http://os-drive.com/files/docbook/xen-mouse.html -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

Windows guests use the usbtablet as described in the outdated xen-mouse.html doc. Tracking is always smooth and exact for me when running a windows client in a VM. SuSE Linux guests, PV, also track well when the guests xorg.conf is properly configured to use evdev. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

Hanssen <terje@nordland-teknikk.no> 2009-01-21 14:38:27 MST --- We can start with the top-configured, highend mobile workstation model, HP Compac 8710 (hp8710w): dom0 (The host) 3.7GiB total memory Nothing special reserved for dom0, which get the rest (most) Intel Core2 Duo Cpu T9500 2.6GHz (cpu0 and 1) No registeret difference if one or two guest were run at once or alone domU As already mentioned, hvm, fullvirtualized rhel5 hvm 544/1024MB, 1 cpu windowsxp hvm 512/1024 MB, 1-2 cpu Configured with YaST>Virtualization>Create VM wizards, attach the config files (Tried also PVM installation for rhel5, but neccessary drivers wasn't found on the CentOS 5.2 DVD, used therefore hvm.) Novell SLES Virtualization guide say SDL is faster than VNC on a local machine, but I didn't succeed so far to replace VNC with SDL. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

Try this: In your rhel5 guest, from an xterm window disable mouse acceleration xset m 1,1 Move mouse pointer to upper left corner of the guests screen, 0:0. If necessary go in and out of the viewer traversing from right to left and bottom to top until there. Once the VMs pointer is at 0,0 when you enter the vnc viewer the mouse pointer should be in sync with the tightvnc circle pointer. Does rhel now work better using tightvnc? (Tightvnc little circle tracks the guests pointer or vis-a-versa) -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
