Just to make sure that that is all of the answer though, the other things I noticed are: - The NIS client won't allow me to set it to 192.168.17.154 and instead stays with the IP address of 127.0.0.0. I assume however that this is by design because the client is on the same machine so it is fine. - The NIS server, when you open up the GUI, always shows the firewall as closed (the NIS client works fine though in this respect) - even when you open up the Firewall GUI and confirm that the NIS server port is open. I also noticed that this line in the firewall script: RPC="rpcbind portmap ypserv fypxfrd yppasswdd" in 11.2 lacks "ypbind" when compared to the same script in 11.0 (RPC="rpcbind portmap ypserv fypxfrd ypbind yppasswdd"). I assume this change is by design? With my remote computer set so that the NIS client receives NIS information from 192.168.17.154, so far I have not seen it update which makes me wonder about the NIS server somewhat. On the other hand as you can see from the images, there is no "shadow" in the list of available services to sync up with the NIS server but that could just be because using shadow is not on by default in openSUSE 11 and so I have to turn it on somehow -- I hadn't got to the point of looking into this yet.
