[Bug 230282] New: Mouse freezing
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=230282 Summary: Mouse freezing Product: SUSE Linux 10.1 Version: Final Platform: 64bit OS/Version: SuSE Linux 10.1 Status: NEW Severity: Major Priority: P5 - None Component: Kernel AssignedTo: kernel-maintainers@forge.provo.novell.com ReportedBy: jls4316@yahoo.com QAContact: qa@suse.de My Problem: I installed SUSE Linux 10.1 on a brand new Dell (no o/s), Athlon dual-core processor, 1GB RAM, 180GB drive, etc. Install seemed to work, but after a few minutes the mouse freezes, just locks up and won't unlock until it's unplugged and plugged back in. The problem seems to repeat intermittently, but in 5-15 minute intervals. While the “fix” is easy, I don't want to have unplug & plug my mouse 4-6 times every hour. I've tried other mice, switched USB ports, nothing corrects the problem. This seems similar to Bug # 177485 Background: I first used this install-DVD for SUSE Linux 10.1 (from one of SAM's books) on an older PC (Win98 vintage) and after a few false starts, got it working perfectly (or at least it appeared to). Then its power supply went belly-up. So, do I spend $s on an older machine or buy new? ... I bought the above machine. The install DVD works, at least it did on the older machine No mouse freezing on that box. Help would be appreciated, as otherwise, this is a great system. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.

I assumed (incorrectly) that this was a linux problem when in fact it is a Dell PC h/w problem. Go to Google and type "Linux USB problem with Dimension E521 AMD 64x2" and you will go to a Dell forum with tons more information about this problem. This problem affects most users with a Dell E521 or C521 PC. And it seems to get most versions of Linux. Comments say even 10.2 is not immune. The problem seems to be solved by upgrading the BIOS to release 1.1.4 (my PC came with 1.1.2) and installing the lastest Linux release. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.
