The Inspiron 1501 uses the AMD Turion 64 x2 TL-56 processor. The hardware scan fails to detect the presence of the built-in Conexant HDA D110 MDC V.92 modem. This is not a critical bug, since we now live in a world of ethernet and wireless, but it would be good to get it fixed. I assure you that there is a phone jack on the back of the laptop and a modem inside. Windows XP and Vista both recognize the modem and enable it. When I create a dial-up connection in XP or Vista, I can dial out. The modem is identified as Conexant D110 HDA MDC v.92. "HDA" indicates that the modem is tied into the high definition audio bus. On this laptop, the modem has installed onto COM3. I hoped you might know more about the linux driver situation.
