It's pretty hard to figure out what exactly happened here during the update. Still the best for the update is getting rid of all NVIDIA packages during update, then add again the new NVIDIA repo for the new distribution and reinstall the driver that way. Otherwise you may have a no longer working kernel module after the update to the new kernel.
