I have installed both Xfce, Gnome2 and KDE desktop, I don't think it's because of a missing library. I don't use any buildservice repos beside my own project with subpixel font rendering patches on freetype and cairo, and the Xfce buildservice, to try a newer version of ristretto. My system is 32bit, openSUSE 11.4, NVidia binary driver from the NVidia repo. Maybe that will get us an idea what's happening.
