Some of your configuration settings may not work properly. Type mismatch: Expected `int' got `string' for key /apps/compiz/plugins/wobbly/screen0/options/map_effect --> 3D acceleration is shown as disabled and "Start SaX2" asks for root password and shows progressbar but SaX2 seems to fail to start. (II) I810(0): direct rendering: Enabled Looks good. So you can just ignore the information about 3D disabled. I think it shows disabled since you updated and therefore are still using the i810 driver instead of the "intel" one. There's trick to convince gnome-xgl-settings

Shift + Doubleclick on the "Disabled" of 3D acceleration status. :-) So does this help to enable the 3D desktop?
There's no /var/log/SaX.log. Something probably went wrong before that happened? I have no idea.

I started SaX from runlevel 3 which made it clear the configuration and start from scratch. It configured the "Intel" driver properly and now I can start SaX from inside X too. * gnome-xgl-settings were spewing warning messages (which went away after 3D desktop effects are enabled) and couldn't detect whether 3D acceleration was enabled. Create an i810 configuration with "sax2 -r -m 0=i810" first. SaX2 will not offer you to enable 3D support. Enable it manually by adding ' Load "dri" ' to Section Modules of /etc/X11/xorg.conf. My solution was to reset /apps/compiz/plugins/wobbly/screen0/options/map_effect with gconf-editor. With gconf-editor I browsed to /apps/compiz/plugins/wobbly/screen0/options and right-clicked on map_effect and selected "reset key" (swedish: nollställ nyckel). Then I when out to console and ran "sax2 -r" and reconfigured Xorg. Last thing was to restart gdm: rcxdm stop, rcxdm start.
