Sorry if I am "spamming" this thread but I would like to confirm the very same bug on my system (X201, ironlake). I was able to gather the following information: a) when starting multiple user sessions, they are correctly started with tty7 to 8 to tty9 etc.) b) when you switch with ctrl+alt+fn then you notice the freeze. The login screen is shown with dots in the password window. However you cannot start any session or press enter. All frozen.
That means you're on the tty sddm is running on.
c) But it is only an apparent freeze! Try to do ctrl+alt+tty2 (!) and you will find a working wayland session that beforehand was started on tty7. All other sessions are there as well, and are migrated to tty3, 4 etc respectively.
It's actually not really a freeze. The way sddm works is that it starts the session and switches to it, then waits until the session dies. So that works as intended - you're just looking "behind the scenes".
d) during this event you will notice your login screen will have another colour (outfit?) then before. (With me it is a grey kde login screen). The password input on these(!) sessions is normal.
Ok, that's a bug. I assume it's actually a bug in either the X driver or kernel driver though, not restoring everything on VT switches.
e) the systemload will be tremendously high afterwards (caused by wayland).
kwin_wayland you mean?
I can join a top output if you deem it useful. You will tell me.
