Are you sure it is ok to drop all the patches?

No, I'm not. Since I have no access to most of the machines, e.g. IBM s390 or ARM, I haven't included these patches. In the following I will comment on some of the patches as seen in my gmp.spec for 4.1.4: Patch0: gmp-%{version}.diff not clear if necessary, probably required for s390 Patch1: gmp-%{version}-x86_64.diff patch is not in 4.2.1, original source code is identical in 4.1.4 and 4.2.1, so patch is probably required Patch2: gmp-%{version}-mips.diff not directly applicable, source file is in mpfr-2.2.0 Patch3: gmp-%{version}-ia64.diff patch is not in 4.2.1, original source code is identical in 4.1.4 and 4.2.1, so patch is probably required Patch4: gmp-%{version}-alias.diff not directly applicable, source file is in mpfr-2.2.0 Patch5: gmp-%{version}-s390.diff patch is not in 4.2.1, original source code is identical in 4.1.4 and 4.2.1, so patch is probably required Patch6: gmp-%{version}-autoconf.diff ??? Patch7: gmp-%{version}-configure.arm-double.diff probably fixed in mpfr-2.2.0, configure contains comment Patch8: gmp-%{version}-gcc4.diff probably fixed, works for me without patch Patch9: gmp-%{version}-random2.diff not applicable, routine in mpfr-2.2.0 has changed Patch10: gmp-impl.h.MPF_SIGNIFICANT_DIGITS.diff Patch11: gmp-impl.h.MPN_SIZEINBASE.diff Patch12: gmp-impl.h.x86.ULONG_PARITY.diff Patch13: mpn_rootrem.c.diff These are not required, fixed in 4.2.1. In the meantime there are some patches for 4.2.1, see www.swox.com/gmp: mpz_set_d.diff ia64-popcount.diff aix.m4-RW.diff configure-ppc.diff These patches should be included. The patch x86-fat.diff should, in my opinion, not be applied since we do not build fat binaries. I hope these comments help you to provide an up-to-date package of gmp 4.2.1.
