I had a smb network printer configured to print to via cupsd. Now, no jobs reach the remote printer. /var/log/cups/error_log ends with the following@ E [20/Dec/2011:10:18:55 +0000] Filter "thnucups" not found. E [20/Dec/2011:10:18:55 +0000] Unable to bind socket for address [v1.::1]:631 - Cannot assign requested address. E [20/Dec/2011:10:19:02 +0000] sharp_1: File "/usr/lib/cups/backend/smb" has insecure permissions (0104750/uid=0/gid=7). E [20/Dec/2011:10:19:02 +0000] [Job 190] Stopping job because the sheduler could not execute the backend. My system is not using systemd. It is probably mentioned in the PPD of your particular printer and I guess you got this PPD from a third-party e.g. a third-party driver for your particular printer. In any case you must make sure that all required filters are available for the cupsd (i.e. that the filter programs are correctly installed).
