I agree. Go ahead, write the article in the Wiki ;)
I can't, I don't know what the issue is with reiserfs as root regarding hibernation. I just wrote a line in the Most Annoying Bugs wiki, but that's all I can do. I don't know what the issue is.
AFAICS, the issue is that reiserfs is a journaled file system and reading from it causes the journal to be replied, but the on-disk state of the file system is not 100% consistent due to hibernation.
That might be, but a year or two ago reiserfs was a journaled file system and s2disk worked. Something has changed, and that is not known (to me), so I can't document that problem in the wiki.
It may help to remove 99Zgrub (or whatever it's called in 11.2) from /usr/lib/pm-utils/sleep.d/, but generally don't use reieserfs for anything unless you have to. It is semi-supported and is going to be less and less so over time.
I will try adding a separate /boot partition in ext2 format, which to me is a cleaner solution. I'll report on that when I have time to run tests, hopefully this weekend. If that doesn't work I'll convert / to ext3. I hope that reiserfs data partitions are not affected by this problem. I know that reiserfs is not fully supported (which to me is a terrible loss), but things that worked should remain working. I made this test partition reiserfs on purpose to test RF support in 11.2, because although my root is usually ext3, I have large inherited data partitions in that format, and backup media (both RO and RW).
Anyway, this very bug entry may be regarded as a piece of documentation describing the issue at hand (changing the subject to a more accurate one).
Good... (In reply to comment #16)
Marking as resolved.
Huh?. It is not solved, it is perhaps a WONTFIX. :-? (In reply to comment #17)
*** Bug 485014 has been marked as a duplicate of this bug. ***
Please don't: the issue described in Bug 485014 is the failure of the 11.1 system to power off after s2disk, after a certain security update. It worked perfectly previously to that YOU security update. And it works if I hit the power-off switch - if I remember correctly, it's months since I try that 11.1 partition. It is a problem with hibernation, but not the same as the one described here. http://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=485014 -- Configure bugmail: http://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
