[Bug 508589] New: Audio CD not detected with KDE4
http://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=508589 Summary: Audio CD not detected with KDE4 Classification: openSUSE Product: openSUSE 11.1 Version: Final Platform: x86-64 OS/Version: openSUSE 11.1 Status: NEW Severity: Normal Priority: P5 - None Component: KDE4 Applications AssignedTo: kde-maintainers@suse.de ReportedBy: Joseph.Comfort@asu.edu QAContact: qa@suse.de Found By: --- User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux x86_64; en-US; rv:1.9.0.10) Gecko/2009042700 SUSE/3.0.10-1.1.1 Firefox/3.0.10 I installed the very recent respin of the openSuSE 11.1 KDE4 x86_64 system. The rpms were fully updated to the latest versions. I get system sounds. I have good sounds from web videos (e.g., youtube). The configuration seems good. However, audio CDs are not detected. I can not play music with KsCD or Amarok. The CDs have been playable on previous SuSE releases on the same hardware: I'm certain about 10.3 and 11.0, and pretty sure about a KDE3.5 installation of 11.1. The problem also occurs identically on a laptop, which has different hardware. Other related items: I do not get a 'device plugin' popup when an audio CD is inserted. MyComputer does not show anything. On the other hand, if a data CD is inserted, I get a popup and an entry in MyComputer. But the data CD is not mounted and the MyComputer entry does not provide for a mount. If I mount manually, I can see the files. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. Install the respin of the openSuSE 11.1 KDE4 live CD on an x86_64 system. 2. The problem shows up whether the rpms are updated or not. 3. Insert an audio CD and try to play the music. Actual Results: Dead Expected Results: Happy music. The computer is a HP Pavilion a1520n with a AMD Athlon X2 cpu. The graphics chip is NVidia GEForce 5150 LE, and the PCI system is MCP51. (The choice of nv or nvidia modules does not matter.) The on-board sound is nVidia MCP51 HDA, and uses a Realtek ALC883 codec. All sound modules, including snd_hda_intel are loaded. The bug is similar to others that are reported. (I don't see any fixes for my case.) I followed some ideas in bug 428153. dmesg after an audio CD insertion gives something like: end_request: I/O error, dev sr0, sector 144 Buffer I/O error on device sr0, logical block 36 Buffer I/O error on device sr0, logical block 37 end_request: I/O error, dev sr0, sector 144 Buffer I/O error on device sr0, logical block 36 end_request: I/O error, dev sr0, sector 148 Buffer I/O error on device sr0, logical block 37 The command 'lshal --monitor' gives Start monitoring devicelist: ------------------------------------------------- 17:08:00.062: storage_model_DVDRW_SHW_160H6S property storage.removable.media_available = true 17:08:00.139: storage_model_DVDRW_SHW_160H6S property storage.cdrom.write_speeds = {'8467', '7056', '5645', '4234', '2822', '2112', '1764', '1411', '706'} 17:08:00.929: volume_part_1_size_574130176 added 17:09:03.343: storage_model_DVDRW_SHW_160H6S property storage.removable.media_available = false 17:09:03.385: storage_model_DVDRW_SHW_160H6S property storage.cdrom.write_speeds = {'8467', '7056', '5645', '4234', '2822', '2112', '1764', '1411', '706'} 17:09:03.394: volume_part_1_size_574130176 removed Based on the comments in bug 428153, the problem is likely a KDE4 bug.
