[Bug 270908] New: Update - System is not valid because of /var at another disk
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=270908 Summary: Update - System is not valid because of /var at another disk Product: openSUSE 10.3 Version: Alpha 3 Platform: Other OS/Version: Other Status: NEW Severity: Major Priority: P5 - None Component: Update Problems AssignedTo: aschnell@novell.com ReportedBy: locilka@novell.com QAContact: jsrain@novell.com I had a special partition setup because of bug #269230: * hda6 /boot * hda5 / * md0 /opt * hdb2 /usr * sda5 /var Yes, this is a very special partition setup but it's just for enterprise testing. The test was: Update such openSUSE 10.2 to openSUSE 10.3. The main problem here is that 10.2 -> 10.3 needs to translate device names. Additionally, /var is at another partition so it should have been mounted "before" calling GetTranslatedDevices. Because only Storage needs this, please, move the code for mounting /var from RootPart to Storage. This is partly duplicate of bug #269230 but really only partly. https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=270908 ------- Comment #2 from locilka@novell.com 2007-05-03 06:53 MST ------- After selecting the 'invalid' partition, update ends-up with the same result as bug #269230. I know that this is a chicken and egg problem: * /var can't be mounted * hwinfo can get the information from /var how disks have changed... There must be a way how to find out the right /var... and mount it (also) during evaluating all installed system (to get the translation map). Will would have to face it in SLES11. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.
