I don't understand if you are abandon syslog-ng, but I have attached the full changelog histories (2.x, 2.0.x and 2.1.x are mysteryly the same, and 3.x). If you plain to still mantain syslog-ng you could reuse the now empty build service related repositories: http://download.opensuse.org/repositories/server:/syslog-ng:/ I think this could be useful to understand and to update. Now I stop bugzilling this is my third today submit. ;-) Thank you and have a nice day. http://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=590348 http://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=590348#c3 --- Comment #3 from Carlo Strata <carlo.strata@tiscali.it> 2010-03-25 12:09:37 UTC --- I recently add three posts in "our" bugzilla: - Bug 590328, suggested update of forgotten (!!!) rsyslog packages (4.4.1 instead of 4.6.1 of the same 4.x series (!), that is not an important and not deeply different new release, that however exists and is already stable too, but and then need to be updated!!!) - Bug 590333, suggested useful and opensource web interface for rsyslog (phpLogCon) (likewise freeradius dialupadmin is for freeradius), but hasn't yet get an answer, like I didn't imagine, of course... I don't yet discovered and verified if is already packaged in current rsyslog packages, but I don't think so... - Bug 590348, this "bug", in which I focus both (!!!) the little OpenSuSE 11.2 current version (2.0.9) update (2.0.10) and the newer syslog-ng stable branches (2.1.x and 3.0.x) I think my help to you can also be given sometime posting these both little and bigger packages updates so you can take a decision for all current (!) version users. There are many packages so I can guess that all following is difficult to realize/pursue. I also think one of bigger OpenSuSE power is living in the build service (repositories). So you can decide not to upgrade main stream (via base "update" repo), but building new and bug fixing (!!!) release in the build service. I love it in this mean... This is the case, e.g., of OpenVPN packages that are base updated to 2.1.0, but build service ones are up-to-date to the stable, and more useful, 2.1.1 final release. Keep in mind that I want to help, not to create troubles. In the recent past I wake up Ghostscript packages (Bug 510324) tha were sleeping too much (we were loosing more than 300 bug fixes!) and more recently freeradius packages (Bug 586377) from 2.1.6 to 2.1.8 (bug fixing with some new functionality release). This is what I mean and why I create this three posts and future ones. What do you think about? http://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=590348 http://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=590348#c4 Marius Tomaschewski <mt@novell.com> changed: What |Removed |Added ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Status|NEW |ASSIGNED CC| |pczanik@genesi-usa.com Component|Other |Basesystem Version|Final |Factory Product|openSUSE 11.2 |openSUSE 11.3 OS/Version|openSUSE 11.2 |openSUSE 11.3 Severity|Normal |Enhancement --- Comment #4 from Marius Tomaschewski <mt@novell.com> 2010-03-30 07:44:47 UTC --- We are evaluating/working on the update to syslog-ng 3.x in factory already. In persona, Peter Czanik (in Cc now) creates the update packages. I change this report to an enhancement for 11.3 now, because it is one. When there is a bug in the 11.2 package, that is not yet fixed in the 11.2 update packages, please file a separate bug with a list of the bugs you'd like to address. AFAIS, currently there is no server:syslog-ng project (any more), but it would be possible to (re)create one. It can be used to build the 3.x packages for released distributions (11.2); perhaps you and Peter would like to join and maintain it together? Please request the project creation then. -- Configure bugmail: http://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
http://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=590348 http://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=590348#c5 --- Comment #5 from peter czanik <pczanik@genesi-usa.com> 2010-03-31 20:04:33 UTC --- The latest stable version is 3.1.0. Upgrading to 3.X needs modifications in a couple of packages: - syslogd: replace '-a' option with some syslog-ng.conf and init script magic - apparmor-profiles: allow access to syslog-ng.ctl and the new config additional log sources - syslog-ng itself The packages directly under home:czanik are already outdated, they were used to get started in packaging. The latest packages are available under home:czanik:branches:etc. until they get accepted into factory. My primary priority is getting 3.X into factory, especially now, that feature freeze is nearing. Once this is ready, I can work on 11.2 packages, but that will be a bit tricky for the above reasons (other packages also need modifications). -- Configure bugmail: http://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

What would be possible is to provide an update to 2.0.10 using the new project, but the the most important (100% CPU usage) fixes are applied to our 2.0.9 update-packages anyway, so the benefit is low. BTW: The 3.1.1 is already in factory: 37855 State:accepted By:autobuild When:2010-04-13T22:27:15 submit: Base:System/syslog-ng -> openSUSE:Factory From: mtomaschewski(new) Descr: 'update to syslog-ng 3.1.1' 37854 State:new By:mtomaschewski When:2010-04-13T13:06:25 submit: Base:System/libevtlog -> openSUSE:Factory Descr: 'update to eventlog 0.2.9 build/configure fixes' The eventlog isn't, but since this are configure changes/fixes only, it is for completeness only... Peter, thanks for all your work on the 3.1.1 update!! -- Configure bugmail: http://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
