https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=786044 https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=786044#c0 Summary: GRUB2 does not play well with Nvidia FX5200 Classification: openSUSE Product: openSUSE 12.2 Version: Final Platform: i586 OS/Version: openSUSE 12.2 Status: NEW Severity: Minor Priority: P5 - None Component: Bootloader AssignedTo: jsrain@suse.com ReportedBy: ka1qma@yahoo.com QAContact: jsrain@suse.com Found By: --- Blocker: --- User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Linux i686; rv:16.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/16.0 GRUB2 does not play well with NVidia FX5200 Video AGP 128M card Dear SUSE Dwevelopers, Thanks for all your hard work! Just upgraded from OPENSuse 12.1 with no problems, grub booted between windows 2000, suse 12.1 or ubunto 10, but after a full install to 12.2 the grub2 menu looked like some kind of CGA screen. Also I deleted the ubunto partition at install in the partition manager. I could boot into windows but not the suse desktop. The text turned into "blocks" scrolling past. Took the AGP card out and booted ok in grub2 with the onboard video on the motherboard. went into yast > system > bootloader and changed grub2 to grub. Now the only problem is system will not shut down only will halt. Reboot works ok. Trying to resolve halt issue, not sure if related. Reproducible: Didn't try Steps to Reproduce: 1. Not sure I want to reproduce with AGP card installed 2. Works OK with onboard video on Intel MOBO OS: Linux 3.4.11-2.16-desktop i686 Current user: ka1qma@linux-0zi3 System: openSUSE 12.2 (i586) KDE: 4.8.5 (4.8.5) "release 2" System is Intel 865GB Chipset Intel(R) Pentium(R) 4 CPU 4G DDR2, 300GB Maxtor HDD -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

The automatic detection will pick the mode based on your display's EDID info and video adapter's supported mode. The matched highest resolution would have been chosen but depend on vendor's vbios correctly implemented or not the vendor specific mode might not work as expected .. 1024x768, however is more common and standard thus should be more reliable to work. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

This time it started in "text mode" and video driver changed from NVIDIA to VESA. Legacy GRUB was actually working ok and have the latest NVIDIA driver installed.
