https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=780558 https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=780558#c0 Summary: Live dvd does not fit on 4.7G dvd Classification: openSUSE Product: openSUSE 12.2 Version: Final Platform: i586 OS/Version: openSUSE 12.2 Status: NEW Severity: Normal Priority: P5 - None Component: Live Medium AssignedTo: coolo@suse.com ReportedBy: hamaryns@googlemail.com QAContact: qa-bugs@suse.de Found By: --- Blocker: --- User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Linux i686; rv:14.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/14.0.1 I download the iso image, try to burn it with Brasero. It says the dvd inserted is too small, even with overburn option. It is a vanilla 4.7 dvd. I can only burn a double-sided 8.x dvd. That is a bummer, since they cost more and are only half-full. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: This was the case for 12.1 and 11.4 also. Expected Results: Downloaded ISO should fit on standard dvd. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

Hendrik,
Assuming that this is a brasero bug (not impossible): what version of brasero is this on? I somewhat assume this is not yet running on openSUSE 12.2 (As you want to write the iso to a disc).
Brasero 3.4.1 It was a problem in 12.1, but still is now in 12.2. (I used a 8.7G disc.) Indeed, from the file size, I would expect it to work. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

It says the inserted dvd has a capacity of 3.9 GiB, whereas Brasero claims it to have 4.2 GB. It seems like the problem lies with the dvd-writer I am using. I tried this on another system, with an external burner (Lenovo), and here it works (at least, I didn’t write the thing, but k3b didn’t complain). So either it is a hardware thing, or indeed wodim. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

I think that k3b (and brasero probably too) uses the backend only for the burning itself. The media size is queried directly. 2. for DVD it should use growisofs, not wodim 3. growisofs can be tested easily: growisofs -Z /dev/dvdrw=image.iso -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
